Late into this thread but if you haven't already done so, do change the fuse, whatever its rating - it might have gone high-resistance so appear to be good, but in fact not pass any appreciable power - it's happened to me in the past (not on autos admittedly, on computing equipment) 2012 FFRR Westminster Orkney / Ivory and absolutely no pimp-glass!

HI ARENAITCH

THANKS FOR THE REPLY, i dont quite understand what you are suggesting? but i assume you are refering to the sat nav.audio master fuse no 49 ??.

but please excuse my ignorance, i would have thought that the fuse must be ok, or the screen etc would not come on?, which it does. does that not show the fuse is ok? please correct me if that is not the case. i am itching to get on and get things checked out ie the nokia, optics etc, but heavy work commitments, getting home in the dark, and Censored down with rain, ( yes we do have a share of rain, even in the dordogne ), has slowed me up a bit. but i am happy to try any ideas. it will start the process of elimination at the weekend.

hi Guys, just thought i would update you all on what is happening regarding my faults. today i was planning to start the process of elimination ( Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation ), hopefully in solving the current issues with the RR.

my plan was to initially start with the nokia module but DHL france had misplaced the optic loop ( the prats ), Censored Big Cry Censored , so i would plan to start checking the connections etc etc; so i got in the RR to start it up after a week of standing without use, but it started faultlessly, Bow down Thumbs Up Bow down.

i shot up the road to check on a job im working on, got back in the car, re started it, and Censored me everything just came on out the blue Question Question Question Question Question Question Question , the gps, voice recognition, cd, radio, etc etc all came on as if there had not been an issue at all.

under normal circumstances, i would have been well happy, but i am actually a bit annoyed now as i would rather have the senario that it had come back on after playing around with a few connections etc, or bypassing the nokia module or whatever, as i would have at least known what had caused it to go off in the first place, but now i dont have a bloody clue Question Question or Idea .

i have been out to and in the car several times today with multiple turn ons and offables, and all is still fine.

How frustrating is that !! anyway a question for the experts, the fact that it has just come back on out the blue, does it give any clues as to what direction i should now continue in. Question . if it had been a water problem which set it all off back in september, would it have taken this long to dry itself out, and even then, would it just come back on again like it has. Question

i will continue to check all the connections, take them apart, and clean them etc etc. but dont know now what i should be doing, if in fact there is anything i can do Question Question .

i mentioned earlier in another post that i had actually lost the bluetooth ability to connect my mobile, and this was the first thing that i lost, so as the screen is now back on, i cant do the optic test with the unit to see if bypassing it bring the system back up so is there another way of testing the nokia module, or is it a case of biting the bullet and just replacing it.

I'm wondering if it has dried out?? Is the nokia working now. Can you see the car with your mobile phone? Is it connecting? Have you taken the connector off the Nokia (not the fibre optics) to check for water damage, ie white powder/gunge on the pins? Previously..

HI CONTRABAND, no the nokia is still the only part that is not working? i say not workingn but i dont know if it is or it isent Question Question. all i know is that when i press the phone hard key, the screen displays ( no phone fitted )?

when i search for devices, the phone says no devices found? and when i try to pair, again it shows no devices found.

no i have not checked the plugs etc, so this can still be done. as mentioned before, this side of things was all working perfectly upto some weeks before the rest went off. the mobile used to pair to the RR as soon as i pressed the keyfob to unlock the doors. all i had to do was enter the code into the phone. as soon as i had done that, the phone screen came up on display.

It does sound like the Nokia has packed up... But before you do anything else... Take the connections to the Nokia off and check them. It might be they just need a good clean if they have water damage. It is a 2 minute job, no tool required, to check. Thumbs Up Previously..

hi contraband,, ok this is the latest situation. i have been a bit busy today but just been out to the car to check if everything is still running, which it was,! audio and gps. so i decided to do as you suggested and check the main plug on the nokia to see if there was any signs of water damage etc as i still could not connect my phone.

i removed the plug and low and behold it was all green around the plug and the connectionson the unit itself.

on closer inspection of the lead with the plug bit on, i noticed signs of wet on the end of the plug when i tapped it on my hand. i gave it a bit of a blow out and plugged it back in, and upon doing that the a/v dash board on/off switch started flashing again as it used to and i have again lost all the audio, and voice recongnition to the computer as before, but initially the gps was still on including the screen and all its hard keys were working, except the audio.

so i swithched the ignition off , turned it back on and now i am back to how i was before, i have nothing at all.

actually that is probably a better senario than before as when it came back on before i did not really know why, but i assume it is a safe bet to say that the fault lies with the nokia module. would you agree with that contraband?.

also what is the best way of cleaning the pins on the unit and more so cleaning the plug side of it as they are very small holes to try and clean out?

This is actually all good news... Get yourself an electrical cleaner spray, one that leaves no residue. Disconnect the plug. Take the keys out of the ignition and wait 15 mins to make sure everything is asleep, so to speak. Or if happier, disconnect battery. Spray the connector and blast the crap out of it. Let it dry completely. You could do the same with he Nokia but I think it is probably had it, but it's worth a try. I had exactly the same fault and had to buy a new Nokia, well, eBay.
Oh, and don't forget.... You have a leak that needs looked at!! Previously..

A needle with the end broken off acts as a good scraper for the small holes in the plugs in conjunction with contact cleaner as above.
To clean the pins just gently run a piece of fine emery paper along the rows over and over again till they shine and then coat them with Vaseline before re-assembly.
Be careful not to damage a pin. Thumbs Up
Worked for me.

hi mate thanks again for your constant very swift replies to my messages etc. it is very refreshing to find a forum where everyone is actually happy and prepared to offer help and advice.

i was on a couple of other forums to begin with ( american ) and they were not only rude, but probably had 2 very short replies after a couple of months.

ok i will try to get some cleaner but probably easier said than done in france, but i suppose i could ask the land rover garrage. do you think a computer shop would sell it? for cleaning computer electrics etc? or could you suggest a make and i could have a look on ebay. i dont suppose WD40 would do it?

also i tried to take the back off the nokia by undoing the 3 screws but it still seems to be held with something. does that mean i cant take it apart,? and is there any point anyway.

thanks again mate for you help

Wd40 is an oil!! Do not use that.. Computer shop, yes, they may have some. Can you buy online and get delivery where you are? When I opened up my Nokia it was soaking wet. I dried it out, but it was dead. Crying or Very sad I bought one for £40 from another member. Razz you have nothing to lose by trying to dry yours, but you must make sure the connector and pins are clean. Thumbs Up Previously..

hi guys thanks for that. i have the back off now and actually apart from a little condensation for want of another word, on the top of the stainless protection cover, there was no water inside other than the above. looking at the circuit board, it all seems clean enough but there was a bit of staining around the top left; top right and lower right. it came straight off with a cotton bud but i i will try to clean it a bit with the contact cleaner? you never know it might still work but it does not sound too hopefull.

with regards to the water leak, i am a little baffled how water can get sideways into the plug as there is no evidence that it has got in on the top of the unit.

anyway i will take a look on ebay and land rover for some prices

thanks guys

will keep you posted.

pps Yes i am able to receive internet delivery here/!
