Lubeguard & Dr Tranny

Have any of you high mileage guys heard of or used this stuff. They are highly recommending Dr Tranny as quick and effective fix for Torque Converter Judder and Lubeguard appears to be a good way of reducing transmission fluid temperate and with overheating being the arch enemy....

Just interested if any of these products actually work?

With both "Lube" & "Tranny" in the titles, am I the only one who thought this subject amusing?

They look and seem very good. I remember seeing something similar at the motor show a few years back, and it was a single shot type thing. On the surface it seemed very very good. The problem here is out gearbox's and TC are expensive and it's a big risk to use one of these types of products. RRPhil might have some input or know about these things. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Its a thread on the DISCO3 site they say Dr Tranny has cured a number of TQ judders completely.

I was more interested in the heat reducing properties of the LUBEGUARD as a very high percentage of the BMW RR <2005MY Gearbox failures are linked to Gearbox Overheating linked to blocked/clogged lower radiators and Oil Coolers/pipes.

A product that significantly reduces the gearbox operating temperature without doing anything else must be a good idea if it has been properly developed to work with the latest synthetic transmission oils - which it looks like is has..... (It appears to also protect the clutch plates in the Torque Converter by coating them-it contains ethers that removes the glaze on the internal clutches )

I had something described as "redlube" additive put in when I had a gearbox flush and filter change. Seems to have done a god job so far.

Gary, use this all the time pal on slipping 6 speed boxes Thumbs Up Goes in all of my own cars every time i service the box... Funnily enough, i put two in the TDV8 gearbox today while i changed the fluid... No issues with the box but it does seem to make them smoother too...

My TDV6 Disco was playing up something terrible and one of these shudder fix tubes solved the problem instantly 18 months ago Thumbs Up

My gearbox has the odd shudder and sometimes feels like it is "slipping" if I accelerate hard from a lowish speed (i.e. roll up to a junction then give some gas). Are these products likely to improve the problem and if so how easy it to get to the fill point (i.e. can I just raise the suspension put some wooden blocks under the frame for security or do I need to put on a ramp etc... to access) I only have the factory jack which I know is not great and a 2.5T bottle jack that Im not sure I would trust on the FF.

Is there a way to check the gear box temp either using the onboard functions or my IID Tool.

A garage tried the shudder gear in my TD6 a few years ago, it didn't make any difference.

They ended up changing the TC.

I suppose once a gearbox starts with the shudder symptoms, spending around £20 is worthwhile to see if it helps.
But I have used the Lubegard, always as an additive though and have done so on our motor after replacing the torque converter, cleaning out the transmission cooler and pipes and replacing the filter in the gearbox.
Time will tell I suppose.
You can read some more here: http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-112/LUBEGARD+A...Protectant
Now I know they may be a bit biased, but some parts especially regarding the temperature test look interesting. As with most fluids the hotter it gets, the more it breaks down.
RRPhil would be someone better qualified with his opinion.
