Mine were the originals, so 12 years old, like the car. After 12 years, I guess I was perhaps on borrowed time! I replaced both sides, the whole strut assembly (shock absorbers and air suspension bags).
If you look at the photos closely, you can see crinkle lines in the rubber. That's probably the giveaway!
It actually blew when I put the car into the raised position to check something underneath. Maybe otherwise they would have been good for a bit longer, but I was half-expecting them to pop some time anyway.
