Maybe buy a Honda??? Seriously though, what year is it? My 03 throws the odd CAN bus fault, and the HDC becomes inactive. I just clear the fault and go again, but it only comes up once in a while, not all the time. Thinking at some stage I need to check the wiring and all the connections on the CAN. In general, CAN (Controller Area Network) is a very stable platform, and most of the errors I see with them (In genset engine control that I work with) are caused by wiring faults. The CAN continually checks the data it is sending and recieving and if it sees an error in the data transfer, or no data transfer, it will throw a fault. It could be a tiny dry joint opening up due to vibration, etc and could be hard to track down. You may need a very accurate wiring diagram showing where all connections on the CAN are - and there are plenty. On the 03 I think there are 7 ECU's connected on the main CAN. I think the CAN on the Rangie is run as a 'free topography' system, so there doesn't need to be a start or end point like on some systems. The CAN wiring can be tapped into at any part of the system, so there may be no logical route to the wiring. Cheers - Gav |

Check inside your ABS module as they can get green corrosion on the "tongues" and disrupt the signal - as the ABS is in line with al the other sensors it throws up errors in all those too. I found a little bit of corrosion on my ABS module which threw up trans fail safe mode, hdc, restricted power etc etc. took it to .Lr dealer and they said new ABS module required ( at £1000!). Took it apart, cleaned mine with air hose and brush and everything back to normal and no recurrence! |

I noticed similar issues were discussed on the BBS forums (they make the Faultmates) and damages wiring is another issue that can screw up the CAN bus system.

I can sense your frustration, but having a go at people on a forum where you're "needing help and fast" could prove more than a little counter productive! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
