Hi Clive
Just had a look through some of your previous posts, the 02 - 04 RR had lots of different electrical systems working at the same time from BMW, LR and own ECU manufacturers software but from what you have written above the CAN Bus communication between the ECUs is causing the main problem. How far has your garage gone into checking the CAN Bus connections and splices. Generaly the ECUs are ok it's the wriring to them thats at fault. If you could let me know your exact vehicle details I will try and help some more. You can email them over to me on brian@greenovalgarage.co.uk.
Hope I can help

Maybe buy a Honda??? Seriously though, what year is it? My 03 throws the odd CAN bus fault, and the HDC becomes inactive. I just clear the fault and go again, but it only comes up once in a while, not all the time. Thinking at some stage I need to check the wiring and all the connections on the CAN. In general, CAN (Controller Area Network) is a very stable platform, and most of the errors I see with them (In genset engine control that I work with) are caused by wiring faults. The CAN continually checks the data it is sending and recieving and if it sees an error in the data transfer, or no data transfer, it will throw a fault. It could be a tiny dry joint opening up due to vibration, etc and could be hard to track down. You may need a very accurate wiring diagram showing where all connections on the CAN are - and there are plenty. On the 03 I think there are 7 ECU's connected on the main CAN.

I think the CAN on the Rangie is run as a 'free topography' system, so there doesn't need to be a start or end point like on some systems. The CAN wiring can be tapped into at any part of the system, so there may be no logical route to the wiring.

Cheers - Gav

Check inside your ABS module as they can get green corrosion on the "tongues" and disrupt the signal - as the ABS is in line with al the other sensors it throws up errors in all those too. I found a little bit of corrosion on my ABS module which threw up trans fail safe mode, hdc, restricted power etc etc. took it to .Lr dealer and they said new ABS module required ( at £1000!). Took it apart, cleaned mine with air hose and brush and everything back to normal and no recurrence!

I noticed similar issues were discussed on the BBS forums (they make the Faultmates) and damages wiring is another issue that can screw up the CAN bus system.

Not sure if you can get onto their forums without a user account but you can maybe ask them http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/

Have you tried the CAN bus reset ?? Remove both battery clamps from the battery, hold them together for at least 2 minutes to fully reset the ECUs and see if that helps. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I can sense your frustration, but having a go at people on a forum where you're "needing help and fast" could prove more than a little counter productive! Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

sorry you feel that locking your other thread [with the same question] is petty but as i have said , you will probably get the same suggestions if members cant see your existing thread and whats been said already....

so you have 25 posts and you havnt made any contribution to the forum ..you've only asked questions to your problems but dont get me wrong , we dont mind helping ,if we can... ... - .- -.

thankyou for your reply stan if i can help the forum in anyway then i will and contribute to it but to start a new thread to seek some answers rather urgently i didnt think was an issue to reach a conclusion
with different issues with the car hoping that someone could shed some light on the issue,,
so my car has faulted 25 times surely this forum is to gather information from other owners experiences and is a question of process off elimination?
in no way shape or form was ' i having a go at other members on this forum' so id appreciate that part deleting please, compared to other forums i have joined this is an exclusive one with some very good pointers and i value there opinion
the car is going into the garage for throttle bodies and throttle pedal next to be looked at on wed,,and the fault might lie in the loom in there,i think myself it is still gearbox related but i honour all members opinions and look forward to a reply if possible,,stan i think this site is of great benefit as was the rrs forum and discovery one too but to lock my thread to me was petty and i think everyone is entitled there opinion without offence, Confused
