Interesting, the one which failed on my car must have been the exception then, it never had a tow bar! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Funny reaction to an innocent observation? Question Sorry if I offended Craig, just stating fact based on my direct experience.

Don't be so over sensitive! Thumbs Up Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Seems nobody asked the most pertinent question then.

"Can you/are you going to test the gearbox oil for glycol contamination?"

This is a well documented fault with some LR radiators where the oil cooler part leaks and allows antifreeze into the transmission fluid. The LR answer under warranty is new rad, new box, new TC and new pipework,

There were also a lot of cases of this with some Mercs.

Is this on the 5 or 6 speed box please?

There was/is a problem with some Mercedes and glyco contamination, from memory the main cause was Valeo radiators and coolers leaking causing cross contamination. Never heard of a FFRR having this problem though

Both I believe Craig. Basically, any car which has the transmission fluid cooler in the main radiator will be susceptible to this. Radiators have a finite life and when they do let go quite a lot do so between the water and oil parts. Quite a common pre-emptive thing is to fit an ali rad, or a separate gearbox oil cooler.

It wasn't so much of a problem back in the days of Dexron 2 or AQF. But some of the modern oils (ZF Lifeguard ones among them) are looking like they could be slowly attacking copper although it hasn't been proved yet. But the facts are that plenty more are failing than used to 20 years ago.

Have personally seen 4 now.
EDIT. From memory, all were either 56 plate or 07 which would make them 6 speeds.
