front suspension bushes failed mot

Well, yet again the FFRR failed the mot. All 4 front lower arm bushes. I replaced these arms only two years ago and they're shot.
This time, I've bought the bushes on their own.
Looking at it, I think I could remove them from the chassis mounting points and remove them with the aid of a bush extractor. Does anyone know of such a tool and where I could buy/hire one from? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I think you would need a hydraulic press to get the new ones in

Wouldn't disagree with that. However, I'm sure its possible with a hand held bush extractor whilst in situ, so to speak.

I've done loads when I used to be on the spanners. Then again, I had access to all that kind of tooling then! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Noddy, I've personally found that if the bushes are gone, then so are the ball joints themselves at the other end of the arms. I know you've bought them already, but nay be worth double checking the ball joints. V8 or else ...

Ive bought the ball joints as a precautionary measure. I plan on fitting the lot together. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

As a matter of interest who supplied the replacement arms I would expect to get a lot longer out of the arms unless your doing some heavy duty work with the jeep.

Here you go Noddy,

http://www.rampandwrench.co.uk/main/

Pop by, do the work there and im sure the tool you need should be as well..

Failing that 2 sockets of the correct size, windy gun, strong nut and bolts and off you go Smile

Take some ice and heat the outside of the retainer and then use the ice on the actual bush to help shrink it down just enough while the retainer stays hot Smile

EDIT: sorry wrong link! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Island 4x4. I got two years out of them. That's just driving on-road commuting, and covering about 8,000 miles.

I did call them. They said there was a 2 year guarantee. I was out by two weeks! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

That's appalling - I'd do that mileage in 2-3 months - and I wouldn't be expecting to change anything that quickly - even if the roads where you live are worse than the surface of the moon.

Cheeky gits.

That's the problem with a lot of aftermarket parts, they just aren't the same quality as OE

I'm hoping that these genuine bushes will fit the aftermarket arms now! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

@47p2 : That's true - but the inverse can be true also. Sometimes the aftermarket guys fix a weakness in an OE part. Obviously not in the case of these particular items.

That is shocking, I am having my rear bushes (ooh er misses) looked at next week so will keep the OEM parts in mind.

On my old BMW 330ci Sport the OEM plastic bushes themselves were notorious for not lasting as long as the specialist aftermarket ones. As to the arms, not sure if they were different. Tom
