With the bonnet in maintenance position .......

I fitted the Bosch S5 last week, and it is a very tight fit. I had seen reference to putting the bonnet in 'maintenance position', but couldn't find how to do that, so it made life difficult. For future reference, can someone explain how you do this?

get some one to hold the bonnet while you take either the top or bottom end of both rams off, once the rams are disconnected lift the bonnet to the vertical position. on the hinges you will see a pivot latch which need turning and lifting over the saftey niple to hold the bonnet in place. simples Very Happy

I fitted the Varta 110ah/920cca on Saturday. Engine turns over nice and bags of power.

To put bonnet in service mode open it normally. Remove small clip at bottom of gas strut and pry strut off - came off easy with a flat screwdriver. Do both sides.
Raise up almost vertical then on each hinge there is a small tab which you push over a securing lug - one each side - this holds the bonnet up.
Reverse process to put it back to normal - a good tip is the clips go back on from bottom of the strut up don't try and push them straight on as it just gets very frustrating Embarassed 2006 MY Autobiography. With 'toys'

Thumbs Up Cheers guys - I just fitted my new Bosch S5 in about 10 minutes - 10 pm at night & freezing outside - would have taken at least an hour with much swearing without this thread.

They weren't on Monday when I got mine - but I thought £133 was a pretty good price anyway

Cheers mate, just ordered one with the 15% discount so got it for £113 including delivery, from ECP

When I put the new battery on, and change the FSR (bought one to replace just in case it is that causing the drain), whats the first things I should be checking to find this god damn drain?

Thanks again everyone

first thing to do when the battery is fitted , is to turn the steering wheel full lock left and then full lock right, this sets the steering parameters ..

re the battery drain, there's a thread or two talking about this .. ... - .- -.

Well, 2 years on from fitting the new Varta, and with the colder starts, I get the bastard HDC Inactive greeting each morning. Not starting problems yet, but I guess regular use helps with this. Was hoping for more life than this, maybe a warm cosy garage, and electric blanket or a trickle charge unit is the answer? .

OK. Got the Bosch S5 from Europarts with the 25% discount and next day delivery. Whilst I was waiting got the Bonnet in access mode. Dead easy thanks to tips about getting the clips off the snap on studs at the bottom of the gas struts. Push them down to get them off and up the grooves to put them back on.

Got the old battery out easily enough. Amazingly the Yodel delivery man offered to help me put the battery in. That was great and it went in easily. But..... and now I had the same problem as many others: I could not get the positive terminal on because of the pyro charge attachment which goes down the side of the battery.

I struggled for hours trying all sorts including lifting both ends, pushing the battery as far to the right as it would go and trying to bend back the side of the battery tray. I finally settled on lifting it by putting some 2" blocks underneath. This worked fine and both positive and earth terminals went on easily. Only problem now is that the battery hold down brackets don't reach high enough to grab the base lip of the battery.

As a temporary measure I cobbled up a bracket held down by the old bracket which extends up and over the new battery. It works but it looks a bit silly. Embarassed

Any ideas on:
1) which trick I failed to do to get the battery seated properly. No matter what I was always about 5mm short of being able to get the side part of the positive terminal inside the compartment.
2) any ideas on a better battery hold down?

Bottom line is that the RR is up and running with the new battery but I am flummoxed as to how others managed to fit the Bosch in to a 2007 TDV8 with the pyro charge attachment. Confused 2012 5.0L S/C
