I just about squeezed my battery in. The pyrotechnic charge is wedged in as tight as possible and the clamp is secure although I would be much happier if I could get it a little further down the post.

The battery certainly fills the space

And here you can see that the negative end is tight up against the bodywork

Hi Simon

Many thanks for the photos, proves it does about fit.

With regards to the clamp/post position have you thought about raising the battery by a few mm?
Hopefully that would allow the clamp to seat correctly and still allow the battery clamps to secure the battery to the tray..although it did look as though there was not much thread on the securing bolts.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll try to fit the battery again and see if it can be raised etc.

Cheers.

So, all's well now Very Happy

The battery fits very snug but it's not stressing/squeezing the +tve fuse box.

Took Simon's advice & levered the battery with a bar to slightly bend the left hand battery enclosure space out (cannot really notice it but now the battery fits.

One note, Simon's photo makes it look as though the +tve terminal could be seated lower but mine is slightly proud and it's not the lack of space that stops it going down, 99% of the post is in contact with clamp so I'm happy.

Hopefully this will help and 2007> owners who decide to upgrade to the Varta.

Oh and on that basis the car turns over much quicker and no worries with the chilly start at 5am this morning.

Thanks to all who helped again.

Hi Steveb

Same dims and spec as the Varta I used.

I think the Varta was about £118 from Tayna if this helps.

I've just fitted a Bosch S5 to mine. The old battery was Land Rover branded so I imagine it mayhave been the original. The Bosch is identical in every respect except the name on the side- right down to the little slots where the fittings for the terminal covers used in transit are - so, I conclude that the original is a Bosch! Don't know whether that's actually true!

With the bonnet in maintenance position, the battery fitted like a glove - must have taken 5 minutes tops to fit.

"Land Rover" batteries are made by Varta, so for that matter are Bosch batteries.
Thats why they all look the same. Smile

Ahh but the Varta I used is not the same as the LR original, different spec (920cca & 110ah) & different dims (wider), which is why it's a b Censored ch to fit Thumbs Up

The battery in my FFRR is a Varta 100ah 850cca

It can sit unused for 4 or 5 weeks at a time and starts no problem Whistle

United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Well, mine finally gave up the ghost on Saturday, just as we were about to leave for a weekend away. I called the AA out who said they could take up to 5 hours to arrive as it was a home start and the weather being the way it was, they have to prioritise roadside breakdowns, which is fair enough.

Anyway, 15 minutes later, the patrol arrived Thumbs Up

He jump started the car and tested the battery, concluding it was knackered. I knew it was on its last legs as its gone flat in the past when I've accidentally left the side lights on.

I drove the car to the hotel and figured if it wouldn't start next morning, I could use the jump leads. As it turned out, it started but only just.

Putting it off no longer, I've just been to euro car parts and bought the Bosch S5 110amp jobbie. Cost me £95+vat, which isn't bad. Extremely tight fit though, but got there when it was put in at the right angle!

No more worrying about if it will start now! 5 yrs guarantee too. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
