New (2013 model) vs Old (l322)

Out of interest - if you were going to buy a new one in the next 2-3 years, would you wait for the new model (2012/13) or buy the final l322?
Do you think they will have a final edition that will have all the lovely toys and be significantly discounted?

Any thoughts?

It would depend on budget, if I was restricted I would buy a late 4.4, if not I would go for the new model, probably. Difficult to say for sure until we see it! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Providing they do manage to launch the new one late next year, I reckon there will indeed be some bargains to grab of late L322's.
It's bound to happen, just like when the 4.4 diesel came out, there were a few very good priced 3.6 V8 diesels that were still available as new.

But no one knows for sure when this new one will be out, they may be late and take another year.......

I would avoid any new Land Rover product like the plague for 1-2 Model Years for them to iron out issues.

Examples on the Evoque:

Panoramic Roof cracks if taken off road too severely...
Xenon shortages have pushed back production...
Lack of armrests on seats - design flaw

These will be ironed out. Of course I would think there will also be battery issues...although Halewood is renowned for its better reliability. Having said that, I assume the L405 will be built at Solihull.

Ouch!

I didnt know about the evoque issues. Not good - imagine having your sunroof crack in the rain.

Thats great advice to wait though.

Fell in that trap with BMW 3 Series convertible (the latest model). Vehicle 200 off the line and every time you got in the back a piece of rubber trip would literally rip off if you brushed the pillar. No problem, just pop it back on? Nope, it snapped the clip EVERY TIME. Sorted out for 2008MY but there we go...

Let's not forget that the L322 still has battery issues and it's been around...what...10 years.

The Evoque cracks are minimal from what I've read but at a (now) £970 option...you'd expect better!

What are the battery issues on the L322?

I remember a friend used to have a vw phaeton. It had two batteries: one for the engine and the other for the interior electrics etc.
Does the l322 have the same?

There's quite a few threads on here about the battery issue - try the search, but here's some links

basically too many electric gadgets were flattening it very quickly. They've now changed to a gel type battery which holds power for longer & some software updates to change the amount of time power supping things are on for.

I've only have my new RR for a couple of weeks so can't comment yet if they've solved it......time will tell

Nope...when the car was designed I doubt BMW even considered the amount of electrics and systems that would be in the car today. One battery to do everything, which is what causes the problem. Couple this with the large amount of charge a Diesel takes to start, that's when you have the problems. The car has also probably gone way beyond its initial lifespan.

BTW if you look at the battery bay in the engine (top right), it just about fills it on mine!

Left mine for 3 weeks no problemo! Not even a low battery warning.

Also have used park vent (not heat) and no problems. Not sure when I'll get to use park heat as it's garaged but maybe at work on a cold day...as you say time will tell!

PS: You never get bored of a FFRR!!!! Thumbs Up

My thinking too.

Always avoid new LR products in the first year of manufacture. Unless you like to roll the dice and possibly end up as a guinea pig returning to the dealer...

Get an L405 in 2013/2014. Thumbs Up
