stop start

this apparent fuel saving feature is really bugging me and i would dearly like to switch it off permanently, but for my year its not that easy ...

i have researched that the 2013-2015 years have an auxiliary battery tucked away in the rear off side cubby and to disable the stop/start you disconnect the negative cable..
this fools the stop/start system into thinking theres not enough battery power to use this feature..

from 2016 [65 reg'ish] there is no aux battery but a voltage quality module [VQM] and a capacitor [?] which monitors whether theres enough power in the main battery/capacitor..
its said that if you disconnect the signal wire to the VQM then this works as the above aux battery disconnection..

the last option is a reverse default on the stop/start button on the centre console so when you switch on the engine the stop/start is off instead of on..
i found this method on youtube from a auto electronics company in california who charge $350 for the process so it seems it can be done..

i've also spoken to Pat at GAP who have had limited success in disabling this feature..

if theres anyone who has a solution for the 2016 onwards FF's , please do tell.. ... - .- -.

Oddly Stan my wife new car has this feature, and I don't think you can switch it off (otherwise I would have) but I have grown to be OK with it and the way it starts the car before pulling off is almost magical. Obviously I wouldn't have it on my RR but is OK on her Mazda Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Geoff

I quite like it Stan, saves all the vibration of the Derv engine when stationary!

I switch it off because I fear that the heat from a stalled engine will cook something, probably the starter motor or turbo’s. Unlike my BMW, the RR doesn’t leave its fans running to cool a hot engine after it has been switched off. In the RR the only use for the start-stop is to get it through the emissions test. I too would like to switch off this function completely. MY23 D350 HSE

I've disabled it on a few cars but only by getting to the switch wiring. A small module with 2 timers, the first one waits 30 seconds when the ignition is switched on, the second timer then operates a relay for 0.5 seconds simulating the button beig pressed. 1/2 dozen components and 4 wires sorted. BMW i3 Electric Car

My first attempt was similar and quite easy to short the switch out, many systems however look for the changing state and if they see it permanently closed or open will signal an error etc hence why I did the two timer idea which works just like the switch being manually pressed, the initial pause is to give the engine time to be started and then it defeats the stop/start before youve driven off the drive. BMW i3 Electric Car

^That looks interesting Mike, although I wouldn't necessarily believe their claim it doesn't affect the warranty..... Whistle

I assume you have the AU warranty on your new one Stan. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Stop start is really irritating , all be it for some, & I’m some! London drivers may have a different view.

2017 or 18 BMW’s have almost a dual start button, and almost part/attached, just slightly below is the “switch off “ start/stop, so you don’t really have to think. Just switch it off as your finger is there when you get going . JLR take note.

I’m forever switching off as I’m sure it isn’t good for the start motor nor for the turbo’s coming to a halt after doing 70 down the motorway.... Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
