am getting around a 1/2 cup of water after rain into the rear right battery/towbar carrier. I have identified that it is dripping from a metal join from inside the top of the rear right Wing in line with where the D pillar is. Can't find any hole on the inside.

Any ideas how it's getting in? do I need to take the black plastic D pillar cover off?

can the rear glass seal fail ?

There’s a possibility it’s coming from the usual culprit, the rear upper door seal and tracking down between the body panels. I had that, albeit on the other side, many years ago cured by replacing the upper door seal.
Initially I spent a lot of time with a hose on the bodywork but never found a leak.

I was investigating removing the D Pillar covers and was told not to by my all-knowing Indy.
They are a b*tch to take off. You need to drill the 4(?) plastic pins then source new ones to replace . The top trim parts on mine also fell apart so I re-siliconned one.

Have you looked inside the internal D-pillar trim? Where the rear speaker sits? that was where my leak was albeit on the left. It is not the answer but it might help your investigation. You can see more inside the D pillar that way.

Think I may have found the source of my slight leak into the rear right battery area.

It's a bad seal/weld by the top right hinge which has rusted and formed a little hole. Water runs along the top gulley and seeps down through the hole. Any suggestions for best material to use as a plug? Bostik?

Once cleaned up I’d be inclined to use windscreen mastic as it’s slightly flexible when fully cured.

I’ll find a link from when I bought some for another project - it’s quite hard to get the proper 3M stuff but what I found works fine.

Just checked mine after a day and night of rain and there were a few drops on the plastic 'raincoat' I fitted but still non the wiser where it comes from. Main thing is the electronics under it were dry. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I’ve had slight intrusion of water into the wheel well, my local indie insisted it was the rear boot seal but I wasn’t convinced.

I think I’ve tracked it down to the rear bumper (where the 4 long crash bar bolts come through the body, but also through the tow bar brackets in my case) bolt holes but given the rather small amount of water involved it’s fallen off my list of priorities so far. The best way to tackle it is of course removal of the bumper and sealing it with something suitable that isn’t going to make removal of the bumper impossible in the future.

Need a few nice days to test the theory.
