Broken down on motorway, have PO42D catalytic converter circuit high, now just got red dpf warning, was yellow for 2mins and I tried the DPF regen but it doesn’t appear to be doing the regen and it has restricted performance as well.

Get it recovered to a decent specialist for their diagnosis.....sounds like a sensor has gone maybe..
Workshop Manual - DTC folder - Engine Control Module PDF file shows:

P042D-00 = Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit High (Bank 1, Sensor Circuit 2) - No sub type information

Check catalytic converter downstream
temperature sensor for mechanical damage due
to chaffing or heat

Check and install a new catalytic converter
downstream temperature sensor as required.
Refer to the new module/component installation
note at the top of the DTC index

Here's the diagram for the exhaust system. There's a number of exhaust temperature sensors because it's a V8 - there's a set on each bank. 5 temperature sensors total.

Thanks for the diagram, I have just cleaned the MAP sensor last week when I replaced a sensor on the left side of the Oil cooler, I had the plenum off and it had a load of crud inside so cleaned it all out. The hoses all looked good too.

I have the PO40D code that's been on there for ages, I had left it as Id seen a lot of posts saying to just ignore it, but I have just recently seen a post where the op had the same code and he replaced the manifold sensor which then cleared the code.

So I intend to get this manifold sensor changed and then the manual states the P042D code is caused by sensor downstream of the catalytic convertor so Ill change that as well and see if it cures the problem, if not its off to a specialist. 2012 TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

P040D is the exhaust gas temperature one in the left hand (passenger in UK) exhaust manifold

Just ordered two sensors and a removal tool,

RANGE ROVER EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR RANGE ROVER DPF SENSOR LR022906 OEM (after cat/DPF sensor)

RANGE ROVER 4.4 TDV8 EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR LR052169 OEM 4.4 TDV8 ALL (Manifold sensor)

Ill get these changed and fingers crossed the DPF will regen and it all works ok again.

The GAP IID Bluetooth now has a beta DPF regen option. If you don't have one already then get one. It will save you a heap of stress, cash and mither. It will also hold its value incredibly. On a separate note DrRob and apologies for a slight hijack here - do you know if there's any way to adjust the cruise control follow distances on its ECU? I find the follow distances way way too large. Number 1 is what I would call a standard following distance with about a 3 second gap, when I think this should really be calibrated as number 2 or 3.

So the sensors and removal tool both arrived today so,

I thought I would start with the easy one in the exhaust in front of the DPF. Had soaked it in freeing off fluid first then tried a long spanner on it but it was a 12 sided spanner and it felt like it was going to round off.
I got out one of my 6 sided deep sockets and cut off the wires and had a go with this, it felt like it was starting to budge and then 'SNAP' the nut has come off but the thread is still inside the exhaust!! L
Anyone know of a good Landrover garage in Lancashire, I think the exhaust will need to be removed now to drill out the old sensor.  2012 TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

I know it won't help you much now but I've had success in the past in shocking the sensors undone, hold the spanner on with one hand and then whack it with the palm of the other hand, creeping up on it by just applying more and more force doesn't usually end well... Sounds weird but it works for me...

Dropped the car off at a Landrover specialist today, they are going to drill out the snapped sensor and replace it then replace the manifold sensor, hope to get it back at the end of the week and fingers crossed the new sensors sort the issues out. 2012 TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue
