Aircon

Hi Folks.
Air con not working on 2016 model just 2 months after getting it fixed under warranty . Passenger side appears to be slightly cooler than the drivers side but still not cold, Any ideas why this would be before I speak to the garage ? Regards

The people who should have fixed it didn't?

Put the setting on "Lo" and see how cold it gets. It should be ice cold, if it isn't then take it back as it's only 2 months ago you had it looked at. All LR cars from 1984

Thanks Chalky. Yes I am waiting for a call off the garage to get it back in. They replaced an o ring seal last time which they thought was the problem. Hopefully they won’t charge again !

Therein lies one of your problems, quote 'they thought it was the problem' Obviously I am guessing here but, sounds like they did not do a proper vacuum test prior to re-gassing. You obviously still appear to have a leak somewhere, they should fix it for free this time - Properly.

The above all sounds fine BUT, you have driven it for the last 8 weeks, and what's to say there isn't now a hole in the condenser? Unfortunately, the gas in these bloody things is sooooooo fine it escapes from any and everywhere! Banging Head Banging Head Banging Head

It’s going in later in the week for a check. The garage have already said it’s probably now leaking from somewhere different but we will see. Thanks for the replies . Incidentally has anyone any ideas why one side of the car appears cooler than the other ?

Just pulling and holding a vacuum might show up a leak. The better way is to pressure test the system with forming gas (a mixture of Nitrogen and Hydrogen) and use a detector. This will pinpoint the leak allowing rectification. I think a vacuum check and guessing where the leak might be is half a job. Aircon gas be it R134a or R1234 is expensive and is harmful to the environment.

I would take it somewhere that will do a proper job RR L322 TDV8 4.4 SE 2019 to present

As Craig says it could be a different leak. I had a similar issue on my D4, took it to a national who couldn’t pull a vacuum so just gave it back… sorry mate that’s got a leak - can’t recharge it.

Took it to a local guy in Burton who put a pressure test and dye in it and found the hole in the condenser. Been fine now for 7 years

First off, has it lost the gas? If so then it’s leaking, if not then there is another issue. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

My money is on a tiny hole in the condenser.

Mine had a hole so small that nothing came up on vacuum test. It only started to leak when the system got hot and was found by tiny bubbling on the front of the condenser once it had been re-charged.

New condenser and re-gas was £225, but I had to fit the condenser - which wasn't overly complicated but does involve taking front bumper, plastic parts and slam panel off. Vent temperature when working correctly should get to ~4 degrees.

Thanks for all your replies.
Incidentally it was tested with the dye and a small leak was found on the o ring which was replaced.
Bit of a strange one, when I got in the car this morning it was blowing cold but again passenger side only, this lasted about an hour into the drive and then both sides were warm again. Seems strange, my feeling is that if the gas was low I would get no cold air which suggests something else ? Any ideas ?
I will post results of the check when I take it back in on Thursday.
