United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Bonatti Grey

We all make that mistake mate. I had a vectra years ago and it kept chewing gearboxes up as it went to a garage that was cheap. Mechanic kept saying its the way I'm driving it. 3 boxes later, took it to a vauxhall indy n he said yea your sub frame is knackered and out of line so your chewing tee box up that way. 2nr hand box and frame later no problems. He even said that frame has been taken off recently as the sub bolts all come undone very easily

Wasnt the way you were driving then Laughing Laughing Laughing

This is the thing we all trust mechanics and assume they know what they are doing or talking about but they are a business after all so want to get it in and out as quickly as possible. Never know who to trust. Cars hey we love them but they can be a right pain.

I knew when I see the advert for this one I just knew it would be a pig... I even recall myself telling myself stay well clear... next day I am in Andover buying it!!!!

Hopefully, this will do the trick and then can keep it for a few years to get my money's worth. Current Cars

I didn't have no talent back then to drive it quick without stuffing it into a kerb.

Your right tho mate they are a business n if they can make an easy grand of you they will. One good thing with martin is he will tell you if yours is a bucket of Censored so you'll know where you stand. Being honest how many techs do you know that can do diagnostics like Martin witj all the computer wave forms etc with the exception of mappers. 1st time I've ever seen it from a garage but soon as you get a decent one you wanna keep them I guess

Yes normally it is a plug in and diagnostics then fix the issue. This is a bit more indepth. Only concern is it went from £88 to £720 quite quickly. Was expecting around the £500 mark Current Cars

The hourly rate is generally the killer on garage bills but sometimes it's necessary to use them, especially with the issue you seem to be having at the moment. It does look as though Martin is doing an honest job and is giving you as much information as he can. From other responses on here it seems that he runs a trusted garage, and as you have found out to your cost already, these can sometimes be hard to find. Personally I would take some comfort in that Thumbs Up 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Oh yes hence me authorising the work to be done. It is a lot but it isnt if that makes sense. Seems more because of the wasted money previously. The amount isnt so extreme but the money wasted before is the killer.

Hopefully this week I shod have the car back. Current Cars

Ash i think Martin has done you proud there to be honest! i know the comms have not been great and frustrated you hell i have been chewing wood on your behalf!! but i do not know many garages that are capable of carrying out that kind of diagnostics let alone interpreting the results on the oscilloscope.
lets hope someone has just cocked up timing up a new timing chain Thumbs Up

The waveform helped. I would hazard a guess previous ownertried to do some work on it. Left some bits off or disnt put it back correctly. Started having issues so offloaded it. Thats my gut feel.

It will be something simple inside. Wejust havent been in that deep this far. Current Cars

It’s not going to be a 5 minute job and it’ll be taking up space on a ramp whilst they strip it down. If they’ve been fully booked they might not have had time/space or an available mechanic to strip it.

Gotta remember mate, it was only in for diagnosis initially so would then be booked in to be worked on. No reputable garages ever tell you yep bring it down now and we will start on it straight away. Only the crap ones do that as they don't have a good customer quantity so generally sitting around doing nothing in the first place

Ah yes true. I can take it to a guy and he will work on it that day or the next. But not big jobs. Makes sense. I thought it was being worked on when they found the issue. Car will be gone nearly a month. Sisnt think that when I dropped it off ha🙈🙈 Current Cars
