Battery Conditioner - Where to connect

I have a 2016 3.0 TD6 Vogue and I use it very little the way the world is. Last night it would not operate its interior light and showed me a low battery message. It did start but my journey was only 3 miles so I guess it would be good to give it a trickle charge.

I have a CTEK battery conditioner can I connect to the jump post under the bonnet or do I have to empty the boot, remove the spare wheel and connect direct to the battery?

If you have towbar electrics you can buy an adapter to charge through there. Keith

If you can be bothered, you can connect hard wire a CTEK connector to the posts

I have a Cetek charger with adapter cable so I permanently connected the adapter straight to the battery. Then all I have to do is connect the charger which can sit on top of the spare wheel while topping up.

Service manual says that you should not connect to battery. Connect to posts in engine compartment.

I hear what you say.
Can someone explain why there should be a problem with direct connection to the battery?
If there is a problem, I would like to be aware so that I don't cause damage to other parts in the future.
When I had a Bentley Continental GT the dealership connected me up the same way?

Not sure it's a problem as such - but the posts are conveniently located under the bonnet.

The battery is located underneath the spare wheel....

You can as long as you connect the negative terminal to earth rather than the negative battery terminal. There's an electronic gismo in the negative wiring that monitors battery status- if you connect Ctek directly to both battery terminals it bypasses this and the BMS thinks that the battery hasn't received the charge and various 'low-battery' strategies/warnings can be kicked off as a result.

Very strange! I have a JLR CTEK kit and guess where it connects Whistle Whistle Whistle You guessed it, in the boot on the main battery terminals... There is a small cigar lighter charger port in the RHS boot panel... Thumbs Up
