Had this on my 2014, but on the drivers door. They replaced the latch as apparently it is a solenoid switch in the mechanism fails, quite common they said. Shocked Keith

Me too -mine was the drivers door

Was a new lock module at around £200 - fitted by my local Indy

He called the M.D. parts counter and they told him they sold several per month, so I guess a pretty common issue.....l

Do we know if the new module is an updated version or is the same old dodgy original one that's likely to fail again in the future ?

Ours went in for "interim service" at the MD today (had a "major service") last time.

Having been asked by the service advisor if there was anything else to be seen to whilst the car is in, I mentioned the extended LR warranty and the intermittent inability to open the front passenger door from inside the car meaning in my view, it's a potential safety issue (in fairness, it hasn't done it for months so am wondering if it was some electronic glitch/ not sure if that's possible though tbh)...

Anyway, the advisor then asked me to agree to pay the £180 "diagnostic fee" if they check the door handle and can't claim it under the warranty. "No mate, I'm not paying you 180 quid to pull a door handle and then tell me it's not covered under warranty. The car is in with you for a basic service which I'm paying over the odds for and failed solenoids on these door handles are a known warranty covered issue"... He replied, "Okay, we'll have a look". I do loads of these on 405's! Always the tiny electric motor in the bottom that fails... Rolling Eyes

It's covered under the LR Extended Warranty.

7 months into paying for own LR Extended Warranty on this car (£145.50/ month without LR breakdown cover) and this is one of two LR warranty claims made and authorised today whilst car was health checked during "interim service" at MD (no claims made in previous 7 months). It's referred to on this thread as a failed door "lock module", or failed "solenoid", or failed "electric motor". The MD advisor today described it as "the front passenger door latch".

The second thing authorised for repair under the LR Extended warranty today was a previously unknown leak from the pinion seal on the rear diff.

Will add these to the L405 rolling buyer's guide to "enrich the library" of things to look out for and things worth knowing about Laughing

This issue has recurred.

People sitting in the passenger seat regularly complaining they can’t get the door to open from inside and one passenger yesterday resorted to climbing into the back seat Shocked

Whenever I’m in the front passenger seat it never fails to open, ever.

As opposed to the door module could it be anything to do with the keyfob or any other of the car settings?

Thanks

I had this issue when I had my 2013 L405. I replaced the solenoid and that appeared to fix it for a couple of weeks but the fault recurred so obviously not that. I then read online somewhere that it can be fixed by clearing the fault code then disconnecting the battery (for 10 mins) and resetting.. That's what I did eventually and it never happened again Surprised 2017 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

Did they definitely change yours Ryan? Or did they lube it first?

My right rear passenger door won’t open from the inside at times. Soft close door. Cycling the child lock switch on the drivers door will allow it to open. Doesn’t effect the left rear door. I assume I need a new mechanism. Can anyone confirm? Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Yes it sounds like it needs replacing sir… However, don’t leave it because if it permanently fails in the deadlocked position, it’ll mean cutting open the door to open it!!! So, do it sooner rather than later 👍

Thanks Craig.

As you do many of these, is it the door latch assembly or the door lock actuator motor that tends to go bad? I am guessing actuator as my door latch assembly is working.

- The door opens and closes normally from the exterior
- The soft close works normally
- The door locks/unlocks normally from the interior most times
- The electronic child lock sticks sometimes. Cycling the child lock button on the driver's door will allow the rear right door to unlock and be opened from the inside.

These are the part numbers for the vehicle I confirmed this morning.

DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY (REAR) - $397.50 CAD

DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR MOTOR - $293.94 CAD

The latch is at fault… The second picture is of the soft close motor assembly…

The latch holds the motors for the lock, deadlock & child locks… change the latch assembly and move on sir 👍
