4 zone is as it says really....each side of rear passenger area can be set different. Standard is just 2 zone, passenger side and drivers side. If passenger behind driver wants it hot, and drivers has set cold, they are out of luck. With 4 zone they can choose their individual temp.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Do I assume the front controls stay the same, the difference being the extra rear controls? |

Yeah, there are 3 control knobs on the back of the centre console in the rear, instead of just 2. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I'd love to upgrade mine, the two-knob standard set up is pretty average

Don’t think I’ve ever travelled in the back of mine.

I don't think an upgrade is that easy (maybe not even possible). 4 zone systems have an additional evaporator fitted beneath the centre console cubby box which is why, on 4 zone systems the box is very shallow. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Gone, but not forgotten |

sorry to stray back to the merits of HD audio, I was driving with the HD cranked the other day and I noticed my jean leg was moving from the air being pumped by the lower door speaker.
