Another FBH issue

Hi team,

With the cold weather I've seen a barrage of FBH questions/posts here over the last four weeks.
All of which i have been reading.

But I really need a steer because I've got mine working some of the time:

My symptoms:

A) Timer: FBH fires from the timer function on the head unit and the car's been roasting.

B) Manual: Turning on from the Head Unit manually sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't

C) Remote: Green pip pip flashes on the remote, went the the car 10 mins later and - before unlocking - I looked in the window and I see the green flashing light on the heater knob. But got in and it's stone cold.

Any ideas would be great ly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

. Cheers, Greg

I can't remember the parameters, but has it always been cold enough for the FBH to actually need to generate heat?

IIRC there is a temperature above which it doesn't actually heat the air? Or am I being thick? Rolling Eyes Bish.

I am having similar issues.

When I turn on the FBH from the remote the system sometimes fires up for a couple of minutes, starts to feel a little bit warm from the windscreen vents, and then shuts down. No attempts to restart it seem to work.

I don't think the timer is working at all because I set it to come on at 0645, came out at 0700 and nothing was warm or running.

Going through the head unit controls the manual setting is greyed out and won't do anything.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I replaced the remote battery because that was flickering red whenever I pressed a button. Now I get a green flash every 2 seconds when I press on and a red light for two seconds when I press off.

I replaced the car battery because I noticed the system shut down with a "low battery" message yesterday after having driven for 45 mins. I have also had that message writhing 2 mins of turning the engine off while the RSE is running.

If there is an internal fault to the Webasto unit then fair enough but why can't I even select it manually?

John

Just my pennies worth , I've had my 2011 for about a month now and had similar issues with tthe FBH with low battery warning coming up. So bought a new AGM , notified the car via IID tool and the fbh is now working perfectly but it took about a week after the fitting of the new battery for the FBH to work every time , remote or screen setting up wise. 2015 4.4 AB

Excellent!
I have an IID tool coming. I'll see how it goes after I've got to grips with it.
Here's hoping. It isn't essential but I would like to get everything on the car working as advertised.

Hi John , i use my FBH 4 or 5 times a day. It's great at this time of the year. I agree about having every thing working but the FBH is fantastic when working correctly.

Hi John, I too was wondering about the manual heat setting greyed out on the head unit, until I discovered these become operational when the ignition is switched off and you turn the head unit on by the standby button. Chris

I have EXACTLY the same issues with my 2011. I have had a new AGM battery fitted, and informed the car via IID tool. I still get the battery warning issue after the door being opened for two minutes.

Ok, so further to my last:

The FBH starts operating in exactly the same way no matter how it's initiated (remote, timer or manual (Thank you for the explanation on manual, you learn something new every day!))

After about 2 mins of fans running and auto light flashing the system shuts down again. There seems to be a tiny bit of warmth coming from the windscreen vent.

Further attempts to get it to initialize once it has shut down come to nothing.

Tonight is the first one I could have really done with it actually working!

I'm assuming that it's internal to the heater and not control circuit because It tries to initialize.

Just a cheeky bump to my original post, we've drifted around, AGM batteries etc...

If it's working off the timer then that should eliminate the FBH basic function, no?

Cheers,

Even though I've got a new battery my FBH seemed to either only work for a short time or attempt to start and then shut down. To test it I attached a remote power supply like the ones recommended by GAP when using the IID with the engine off and tried again. It ran perfectly but I noticed it was drawing 20 amps from the power supply.
Presumably battery condition and charge state are critical for the system to perform correctly. I do a lot of short journeys which probably isn't enough for the battery to recover. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE
