After market rear lights - can't remove... see pics

Hi guys,

Based on my last few posts it'll be clear that i've bought a second hand RR 2003 and am trying to fix various bits.

The rear lights are non factory lights and the brake bulb has gone, as such we're trying to figure out how to remove the cluster. I've looked in the manual but these don't seem to be fitted in the same way so I'm trying to figure out how to get them out!

Does anyone know who's made these lights so i might be able to get fitting instructions? This should then help me to figure out how to remove them. I've undone the two large screws on the side of light (see 2nd image) but it looks like the are screws onto a plate on the outside of the car (see 3rd image).

Any tips or pointers would be much appreciate, thanks!

Try cutting a long thin wedge of soft timber, inserting it into the joint between the front edge of the lights and the bodywork and gently tap it into the gap. The lights should drive towards the rear and then come off.

the brake bulb is led so possibly you have been very unlucky and the led has actually become faulty... i'd first look at the wiring to it.. ... - .- -.

I presume that 3rd picture is of the upper front corner of the drivers side rear light... the threaded part in there leads me to think maybe they drilled all the way inside the car and fixed it with a screw, remove the rear fuse box cover inside and see if you can see the other side of that area....

If not then as nicedayforit says, use a chock to push the light towards the rear of the car, there is supposed to be a ball and socket top and bottom that pop off.... Pete

That style of light is the genuine factory fit for 2010 models onwards. It appears yours is a 2003, when fitting the later lights to earlier models modification to the wiring is required.

This might give you an idea...

Ok so i do have some sort of converter box which has been cut into. The only odd thing is all the wires except for the brake light has been but into (blue/black and black/blue). So the control box is not interfering with the brake light in anyway as far as i can tell.

The only thing that doesn't work is my brake bulb on that side, is that an LED or a normal bulb?

Thanks

All LED - as already posted, it's an upgrade to the 2010 & onwards unit - but they didn't operate like bulbs with a wire for each, so a convertor box was required.

All good until there's a problem.....

It's possible, but unlikely the LED has gone - best way to test would likely be to remove the other side and connect that unit - the connectors are the same - that would tell you whether it is the convertor box/wiring, or the unit itselff Thumbs Up
