Anyone removed the Wiper arms on an L322? I have a question!

I ordered a couple of new wiper arms from Dan because mine were old looking and chipped.

Went to fit them tonight, took off the cover, and undone the nut no problems.

Pulled up on the wiper, came off really easy..too easy. Its seperated in 2 and left the bottom half stuck to the bolt coming out of the wiper motor.
Luckily i was prepared, i bought a Sealey windscreen arm removal tool just for this job, although its a mm or 2, too short for the ranges massive bolt. i got it on kind of, half, but it still wont budge. Ive used WD40

but my question is, who has removed these and how did you do it, is there a trick or special tool you used at all?

Shocked Why do you need to remove those bits? your replacing the wiper arms, not the shafts, aren't you? Can't you leave the old base on the shaft and use the new upper half that came with the wiper, it would save a lot of Banging Head Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

You know what, i havn't even looked at the new wiper arms properly but they looked pretty well sealed together, i just thought i had broken the old wiper arm base in half and left this half on the splines still! i shall look though Bow down

Those bases allow you to adjust the angle of the wiper arm, so that you can get it just right, Whistle I believe that there is an optimum angle that they run at 89.1 or something like that, in other words just leaning in to the up sweep Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Unfortunately the new wiper arms come sealed by the looks of it, so that bottom metal bit on the spines needs to come off before the new arms are fitted

When I refurbed my wipers (sprayed them) I left the lugs in situ, and just gave them a good clean.
the ali oxodises. Put a dollop of grease on and refitted.
why do you need to remove them?

Haha no worries. The lugs are fixed onto the new wiper arms ready.
Rave says to replace them when fitting new arms I guess to stop them getting so stuck on !
I would happily leave them if I could though !

When I had to remove mine to re seat them in the correct position to stop the annoying thud at the top of the blade sweep I used a set of gear pullers like these

tried the gear pullers but they arrived and are too big to even get under the bit i need to remove.

im confused, please see my new and old wiper arm. the new arm is complete unit and has no thread as such to go onto the car so how will the wiper arm move when its on if theres no gear like mechanism on it?

im going to grind the old part off the bolts on the car to fit new arms but need to make sure they will work before doing so

any help greatly appreciated

its metal but looks white, yes trying to remove it, i think it is on a spline rather than screwed on which is why i tried wiper pullers to pull it off, can anyone confirm?

well i found out the smooth bore on the new wiper is how its meant to be, as when you install it the spline cuts into the new wiper making the fitment nice and tight

now just to decide if i dare to try and cut them off, can't believe how tight they are on

Had to use a puller on mine, had it tightened as tight as it would go before the central bolt started walking off the wiper shaft then had to bray hell out of it with a hammer to get it to pop off... Had to be very brutal.... Then the other one was a bit tighter

The parts should come off the new arms no bother and just fit the top bit's as has been said before...

Don't use copperslip on them, on reassembly, it will eat the alloy... regular grease will do... Thumbs Up Pete
