-3 this morning........

So it's colder but same s££t different day.

Slowly losing the will to give a s ££t anymore.
My L200 started in -8 last winter.

Think all you guys should fit a second battery in the boot as Dan_1984_Uk did.

Mine has never failed to fire up first time, and it's the battery in it when I bought it off dan 5 years ago!

hee-hee, i have those days. i say to the missus, 'either get in the back, or sit in front, but put your feet on the battery!'

i've wondered, if i could fit a smaller squarer, second battery, (normally isolated) from say a saloon car.., into the void above the brake master cylinder. on a drop in shelf. bolted to bulkhead. run some cables accross, and fit a twist switch. down at the cabin underdash area.
in event of a flat battery, I reach down, twist the switch etc. (batteries now in parallell.) start ,and switch off. the same battery, is then charged via an ign. switched live. This can also be done by the Missus too.
i cant be doing with ctek chargers and wires outside, and i have the loose battery and cables in boot as we speak!
i get asked to 'go outside and see if your car will start now, 'im not having you messing about when its dark with wires!'

That second battery idea is cool.
The Dan one is hard, I read the guide and that's way way too hard for me to turn my hands too.

I need to change the FSR for the heater/blower anyway as I sill have the battery drain problem

Battery in passenger foot well will have too do.

I had to call the AA out in between Christmas & New Year. Wife had parked nose in so couldn't get a jump, hate these fecking things sometimes!

Wife just called me. Car won't start again. If it's not the cold killing the battery it's the random battery drain.

I have the same problem.. The car is on the battery charger / dropper on the ramp to the night come at 0 degrees or less .... I 'm going to first replace the FSR since the blower sometimes hard and sometimes soft blows ... which I suspect as a first problem.
Battery replaced two months ago so it is not about that . I use Google translate, Sorry for my bad English...

There was is a car garage near were the Wife works and one of the lads saw her trying to jump it like I did this morning (pictures above)

So helped as there was a car parked next to her very close.

He advised it's the started, from what he could hear when she was turning the key the solenoid is failing to kick start and said he's worked on theses before.

He might be right or is he just goin with the obvious?
Wish I had tools to check this stuff myself so I can sleep at night lol

Just to be helpful, how do you know you have a battery drain, have you tested for it?
Do you know what your battery voltage is before you try and start the car?
Also you say the problem is still there after a battery change.
Are you sure the battery terminals are tight. From my experience the battery terminals on these cars seem to close up after a while such that although the terminal bolt is fully tight the clamp itself isn't due to the fact it can't be fully pushed down on the battery post before bolt tightening. Try wiggling the battery posts.
If you find a slack terminal, take the clamp off and with a large screw driver open the clamp up where it is split so that there is at least a 2mm gap. If you then refit the clamp you will find it will go fully down on the terminal before tightening and will then fully tighten. You need a 10mm socket / spanner to do this.
Your problem may well be your starter but I would be willing to bet it isn't based on the fact replacing a starter doesn't seem to be an issue on TD6's.

Basically the non start problem started back in Nov 2015.

AA called out twice and when tested the battery was on 8 or 9 volts.
They checked the alternator which was changing at the correct volts on both call outs.

Alternator was put in by previous owner back in September 2014.

After having a service in Dec and changing the battery to the recommended one all was fine.

During Xmas the car wasn't driven for 1 day and on start up in the morning nothing so it needed a jump. Since then it's been fine until Saturday just gone when we had -1 it wouldnt started and then twice today.

So there has been big gaps where the car was fine but since Saturday it's failed to start 3 times.

Have you considered the ignition switch may be intermittently faulty?
Do you always hear a clicking sound when trying to start?
Next time it doesn't start try moving the gear selector lever backwards and forwards a few times then try starting again.

I know the ignition was changed by the previous owner as there was a receipt with all the paperwork but I haven't had that looked at.

The clicking sound is a defo, had that on Saturday morning and twice today.

If the ignition was faulty surely it still would fail even with the jump battery connected.

Might be worth spending 10 minutes checking the battery terminals and all earth straps to the engine from the body / chassis Thumbs Up

My TDV8 failed to start once with only a "click" from the starter. Unfortunately it was the earth strap under the engine which was about 14" long from memory and about £275.00 Shocked Shocked Even worse, as it had been failing it was using the selector cable as an earth path so that had to be changed as well!!!!!

I guess the tell tale to me was when it failed to start and I got the "click" the radio was still on and the lights didn't dim!! If the "click" is accompanied by everything else going off then it's more likely the battery / connections IMHO!!

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted soon!! Back in a Defender!!
