Pray for me please

Took my FF into Green Oval this morning, terrible wheel wobble at 70, especially gentle left and right handed corners.
expecting suspension or drop link issues. Brian has just called to say it's probably the rear diff, so looking at £ 2k to sort that, but it gets worse, that may not solve the problem and it could be the electronic diff too Big Cry
He is inspecting it with a fine toothed comb to see what other issues it may have.
I cant see me getting any help from anywhere else, so a small prayer from the Full Fat massive just might help !

Hi
Seems odd that a diff issue would cause wheel wobble to me, I would looking at the front suspension and steering, for wheel wobble issues. How many miles has the car covered? SC 4.2, 2012 face lifted, 25K miles, 1 previous owner

Thanks for the reply, it's only covered 66k.
To be honest it runs very short distances daily, only 4 miles to work, so it does nothing, but I know that's not healthy. Then I run it down to mid France a few times per year.
I assumed the same thing about the suspension, I left the house this morning thinking I would be £ 700 or £ 800 worse off tonight, but never thought I would be bobbing my kidney for sale on fleabay tonight.

I'd be inclined to agree, the wheels are fitted to hubs albeit through bearings, why would a diff issue cause wheel wobble.
Be interesting to hear the outcome, hopefully not too expensive. Thumbs Up

Never heard of the diff causing a wheel wobble, usual culprits

Ball joints
Lower arm bushes
Warped discs
Sticking rear calipers
Bent hubs

Diff failure at 66k not heard that......yet......

Also, I would doubt that you're has the electronic diff, so that is worth checking.... They were standard on the s/c but pretty much redundant cost option on lesser models as most of it was taken care of by the terrain response and abs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Good luck fella let's hope it turns out to be a cheap fix so you can leave that kidney attached to its rightful owner Wink

Update on my tale of woe. Brian at Green Oval has told me everything else on the FF is fine and dandy, disks fine and been through the suspension with a fine toothed comb. only other problem is that my rear washer doesn't work - yippee.
So it's the diff, he reckons that PROBABLY the diff is transmitting the vibration down the prop and it's coming through to the steering wheel.
here is the clincher though, he is going to change the rear diff, but if it's NOT that, then he will start looking at the front diff !

Dear Lord - is there no hope !
should get it back Saturday / Monday, will let you know.

Hmm, I once contacted Green Oval via their webpage for a quote on work and they never even replied so I went elsewhere. Discovery 4 HSE

Cobber the diff is only a crown wheel and a pinion the pinion gears put the driving force into the crown wheel

which in turn puts it out side ways through the sun gears to the wheels via the axles

there is no way this side of hell can it cause wheel wobble.............

I have smashed a lot of diffs and none of them have caused the wheels to wobble

As for vibration yes but the vibration is always accompanied with very loud clunks and bangs as the gears on the

CWP jump over the broken ones in other words theres a hell of a lot of noise and often no drive to that axle

Mmm...but If the E-Diff motor has failed ( as mine did) it could lock the rear axle which could cause a judder on cornering, but I felt that on mine coming from the rear as a vibration. Cost about £400 to sort that specific issue on mine. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

when I am driving around town etc, I can't feel a thing, 65 mph and it drives like a dream and no noise, but 70 and gentle corners it really vibrates strongly, incredibly strongly, through the steering wheel.
I am having one of those moral nightmares, the feedback I am getting on here is that I should ring them and tell them not to put in the diff as it may not cure it, but what do I do then, I suppose I just have to trust them. they are a site sponsor and have been around a decent amount of time, and i just cant get my head around the fact that it's a cart load of money that may or may not cure it.

Having broken plenty of diffs too .... not sure the symptoms match the solution given. I had full lockers on my Disco and all you get if you leave them all on is tyres scrub and a resistance to tight cornering.

Light cornering and driving over 70mph sounds more like others are suggesting, or perhaps an issue with the speed related steering system? Land Rover Addict

as soon as the wobble started I changed all 4 tyres and had the balance checked twice after. I have read on here that it can be challenging to get them right first time.
as I mentioned before the wobble is so strong that yesterday when I was demonstrating the problem to the mechanic I was worried that the airbag could deploy - it was that bad.
anyone had that before ?
