My money would be on a ball joint. I had this set of symptoms on an old Rover SD1 and it was the lower arms. Not worn enough to show with a pry bar but rattling like a can of nails when cornering. Hellish vibration through the wheels too.

I ended up replacing both lower arms, ARB bushes and track rod ends. Not a massive cost TBH and it transformed the car.

thanks for all your advice and opinion guys.
Brian at green oval has just called to say the Diff is on backorder, so it could be a while before the repair takes place.
I took the opportunity to tell him of our collective opinion, he reassures me that everything has been checked over and he is convinced its the diff.
Will let you know how I get on when it's done.
thanks again

Back in the day I would have removed a half shaft and rear prop and stuck the centre difflock in - that would tell you if it was the rear diff!!! Land Rover Addict

I didn't ask ! I thought about it - a lot.
it's one of those things were you have to "smell" or "feel" if something is right or wrong.
I also take great comfort in the fact that they know I am a forum member and that they know all you guys are reading this ( I tell them everytime I speak with them )

I have a very similar issue with my tdv8. On fast slight left handers the whole car shakes like hell, scared my brother to death when he drove it. Lower arm has been replaced and all tyres and wheels changed but problem still exists.

Its fair to say that GO have always played fair with me....They've given loads of advice FOC and seem genuine.

As you say, he (Brian) does keep an eye on this site which is a good thing, but sometimes, complex / obvious or intermittent problems can only to be worked thru and solved by changing parts in good faith, which always leads to the inevitable "who pays" question.

Its not an easy one but i'm sure GO will be fair given its in their interest Thumbs Up GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Is it possible to disconnect the rear diff and drive on the front axle to rule out the diff.Am not sure it is but am sure someone will know.Certainly does not sound like diff to me,it could be anything. What about the props or the transfer box or an electronic fault.Anyone got a 4 wheel rolling road you could put it on!!

It still sounds to me not diff related, if the diff was locked up because the electronic locker has failed then its still not going the cause the wheels to wobble, the inside (of the corner) tire can skip and chirp on hard tight corners
but not wobble.

On the old classic when you had a shot front radius arm bush at some speeds it would seem as if the whole front end was coming off. They cause serious front end wobble but not a diff.

Its easy enough to see if the diff is locked put everything in neutral release H/B jack up one corner at a time see if the wheel spins if it does that axle's not locked.

What explanation are they giving you that the diffs causing the wheels to wobble??

I would be looking for a 4 wheel dyno and giving it a run on that failing that get a Go Pro camera stick it under the car pointing at each corner in turn and go for a run till you experience the symptom stop and check the footage

Hmmm. while the car is waiting for the back-ordered diff, has the garage got another car in, that he could just disprove the 'dodgy wheel' theory, and swap wheels set from another car, and retest ???
I see you've changed the tyres, but are the wheels still originals? bad wobble felt on steering wheel, is wheel related. Bad ball joints allow this also to happen, buckled wheels too. Rear diff issue looks like a 'dartboard guess method ' to me. it maybe true that the elec diff is not working properly, but that might not be the cause of your wobble, and then, he's going to start on the front diff!
that's like treble twenty, and double top!
ive had issues with rear wheel balance, and you feel that through the seat, the front you feel it through the steering wheel. and at a certain speed is a major 'wheel balance alarm'

PM sent. Its impossible that the diff can cause the symptoms you describe. Don't spend a penny until you've had wheels balanced on a "Hunter GSP9700 Road Force balance & measurement" machine.
Cheers, Jon.

Thanks Guys, I have spoken to GO and asked them to change all the Discs first and balance the wheels again before the Diff arrives from LR ( on backorder until 20th April ). The discs were on their way out anyway so at least that's money well spent. Will keep you informed.
