Mettalice wrattle on idling

Has any one had the following issue on a TD6 or other?

When idling there is an annoying mettalic rattling noise coming from underneath the car.

When driving its not there but if im in neutral and rev , the car revs and when it dies down i get this wrattle for a few seconds after.

The stealer has had it up on the ramp last time and said he couldnt find anything (mind you it was after i gave him a piece of my mind when i had my last expensive service)

Its really bugging me! CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

I'm guessing the obvious would be the heatshield on the exhaust? Question

Mine was a bit loose near the back, but the MOT man refixed it while he was checking under there.

Yes that sounds about right - is there only one and are they easily accessible? CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

I think there are a few, but they are relatively easily accessible from underneath.

United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Epsom Green

Hi Guys, dont know if this helps but I have the same probs with my TD6, not there all the time but sounds like a very heavy tappet noise, or a loud ball bearing in an aerosol can, have had a couple of places look at it and both say nothing to worry about it.
I have had a good look and traced it to the bosch fuel pump above the alternator, could be a return valve maybe.
I have managed to get it to go away by adding a good fuel additive but a couple of tanks later, its back.
Im doing well over 1K a week so any changes done at service can be picked up quickly. Ive just changed oil brand and have noticed the noise is not as loud but still there, it never gets worse though so maybe just a bosch quirk??
I think its the fuel pump as it only does it at tickover when its not under much load, but goes when you pick the revs up a bit.
the exhaust heat shield is good advice but mine only does this when just pulling away for a second or twon

hopes this helps

cheers

Finally managed to have a look underneath once the car had reached temperature.

It seems to be coming from the front exhaust box wrattling against something around it.

I pushed the box ever so lightly with a stick and revved the engine and the wrattle goes - so it would seem that the exhaust box is expanding so slightly that it is fouling on some underbody work.

May have to pop it into an exhaust shop and let them have a fiddle. CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

I had the same coming from the front of my TD6, turned out to be loose front brake, backplate/shield.

I remember having a rattle develop on my old TD6 for no particular reason - turned out to be the heat shield near the bulkhead for the exhaust downpipe had 'warped' and was touching the exhaust - must have been due to heat etc.

Quick and simple fix - a long prybar / screw driver was used to gently push/bend the shield back into position.

Hope yours is fixed as easily Thumbs Up
