Battery charging

I'm looking to get a CTek charger and looking on line it is clear there are far too many to choose from.

1. I'm not trying to recharge a discharged battery, just looking to keep my current battery in as good a condition as possible so wondered is a 5 amp charge rate is good enough or do a HAVE to have a 7 amp. I don't do many miles - perhaps 50 each weekend.

2. as my FF is a weekend car and I will want to leave the charger attached for a 4 or 5 days at time - does this mean I need a charger which has a 'maintenance charging' function

There is nothing wrong with my car at present - just trying prevention rather than cure. Thumbs Up

Many thanks 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

MSX5 would be more than adequate for your intended use.
MSX7 will recharge a low battery more quickly but that's all.
You can connect either to your car / battery and leave it connected for as long as you like. Thumbs Up

Just a question, interested in getting a CTEK but my battery is a 110Ah, but it says :

Quote:
The MXS 3.8 is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger with patented Float/Pulse maintenance for use on batteries from 1.2Ah up to 80Ah. The MXS 3.8 solves a broad range of battery problems and is the ideal charger for everyday use. Features of the MXS 3.8 include diagnosis of battery condition to establish if it can receive and retain charge, patented automatic desulphation program and a special "Snowflake" mode for optimum charging on cold winter days.

Looks like the MSX 5.0 is the bare minimum for a diesel? Land Rover Addict

The MSX5 is adequate for a 110AH battery according to Ctek themselves although I personally have the MSX7 which gives a bit more leeway.

I have an MXS5 and have done for two years now and its done a load of batteries Smile

So far there are only two that it hasn't brought back from the dead in cars that had been parked up and let go flat for a VERY long time.

I also made up a tow socket adapter for it which makes things easier but requires you have twin electrics Smile
There is also the normal connection in the boot where i used the supplied easy connector onto the main positive and earth on the fuseboard in the boot as this can help with Park heat when used as while 5amps isn't a lot it does help keep the battery good when its used Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

As I see you have a 2010 TDV8 so I suppose you might have an AGM battery. (adsorbed glass mat)
From the current CTEK lineup only the 5Ah is able to perform "AGM recondition".
Neither the 3.6 not the 7 or highers have this AGM recond function.
What they suggest is an annual recond for each battery, what could be made only with the 5Ah. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue MY12

I looked at the full rnge and went for the MX10 - does everything - I leave it connected for months at a time with no problem. Checked on Ebay and found out by searching the seller (Plymouth batteries I think it was) , got it far cheaper than any listing from their actual website (not their Ebay shop) - next day delivery to ! Cannot recommend it highly enough Thumbs Up Very Happy

Approx 2010 as a lot left without them but were then recalled and the FBH timer was also reduced as they were killing the battery.
IMO i think the actual issue is that when the Park Heat command is sent, instead of just waking up the climate systems it wakes up a few others and this then causes the battery to get pulled down.
This or there is a component in the climate system that uses a HELL of a lot of juice compared to the slightly older setup... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I've just been and checked. The battery is a LR badged Varta and part of the reference labelling says 'AGM' so yep you're right.

Does the CTek have to be 'told' the battery is an AGM or does it just do its thing anyway?
