How to remove front wiper arm - Refurb or Replace

Not the end of the world but for the CDO sufferer I'm just contemplating whether it would be easier and whether a decent job could be done to just touch this up or whether that would be more trouble than it's worth and just to replace the driver's side wiper arm where, on the joint, the satin black finish has flaked off, leaving bare grey underneath and which looks scabby and out of kilter with the condition of the car.

The wipers work fine and are otherwise in vgc.

Is it easy to take off and put back on a front wiper arm whether I paint or replace?

Thanks.

Picture of the offending flake taken in the dark makes it look better than it is

To just remove the wiper arm and replace with the same one or a new one, is a Jaw Gear Puller necessary or will the existing arm just lift off once the main securing nut is undone (this instruction book extract doesn't mention a puller that is pictured below too):

Jaw Gear Puller:

Usually they just pull up but knowing Landrover well anything is possible - as for replacement for me I would replace both as I would always see the repair and then it would prob show up against the other but then they would probably makr the scuttle panel look faded so only solution is a new motor got a spare 100 grand lying around Rolling with laughter
Sorry not much help but I get a bit anal about stuff like that Thumbs Up

Thanks Sandy. Since the initial boredom consumed me, I'd decided to replace for the reasons you mention, so placed a vote to that effect myself and found the how to info... I've not actually found an online video on removing L322 arms but a fair bit of info seems to complicate due to suggesting need for a puller. Other wiper arm removals and videos seem easy: remove nut, lift off arm and replace!

Thumbs Up

Hi,

Before you remove the arm, mark on the glass with tape where the blade is parking. That way you should be able to replace it where is came from exactly.

Also don't remove the nut fully, just loosen the nut and then wiggle the arm at its base so as to loosen it at the bottom. That way your not going to be pulling with a sudden release that could mark the paintwork and you!

Hope this helps.

Paul

Not sure the 3 arm puller will fit into the available space, might be better with a 2 arm puller

No, the 3-arm puller won't fit! Use a 2-arm puller or as similar to the one shown above. It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

Loosen the nut but leave it on the thread towards the top, lift the wiper blade as high as it goes and gently rock it back & forth... You will here a "gentle pop" put the wiper back down on the screen. unscrew the nut the rest of the way... "A voila!"

Ive never once had to use a puller on a 322 wiper blade!

Thanks for the helpful and humorous replies. Glad I might not need to meddle with a puller, top tip about the masking tape marking and likewise about leaving the nut on whilst starting the arm removal process.

I'll order a new arm and will DIY (thankfully the creator of that acronym was familiar with the sequence of the alphabet!) Laughing

Thumbs Up
