I have never taken a tape measure to my hitch, but I suspect that it is below 18", which is as far as I'm aware the E U standard height that all trailers must conform to. So gotta ask WHY ????????? doesn't make sense to produce a towbar that's below the standard height that all trailers must conform to. I was very disappointed when I first went to hitch up and realised that every hole was too near the deck Normally with L/R it's the other way and the hitch is way too high. Fortunately for L/R the standard is for the trailer and not the tow vehicle, but how could they get it so wrong ? Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Lesson learned - the hitch with the screw thread may still be available - you would almost certainly find one on eBay - could well be that the dealer had stock to sell..... As long as it's a genuine part, I can't see how it could void the warranty - however, if you weld it, it almost certainly will It's a shame you're not closer, I would happily swap as I never leave mine on the car, so the bolt is a PITA. |

If you want to go down the bolt route, find yourself a friendly engineering / black smiths place and ask them to tap the hitch that you have to take a bolt, you will have to make the hole in the receiver a bit bigger. But again if you didn't want to tackle this yourself then I'm sure that the people tapping the hitch will take pitty on you.

If you are under warranty then there was a service bulletin issued in around 2005 which said that if a customer complains about the rattle then the alternative part with the bolt and threaded armature should be installed. Your dealer should be aware of this but probably isn't. |
