One tip on with the 13pin system is to buy one of the parking tools for the plugs,it is possible to get the pins misaligned which can be a pain.

The info on trailers since 2012 needing reversing lights explains why I have seen them fitted to the latest trailers I have been looking at, although some of them seem like they won't be that much of a benefit.

You wont regret the 13 pin set up, with an adapter it gives you the best all round options Thumbs Up Plus the 13 pin wiring, assuming that it's OEM, is the only one that will accept LED's without the need to faff about with resistors to stop all the error messages on the screen of Doom, accompanied by the Bong of death Wink Had one on my FFRR for 6 months, have towed 50 odd different trailers without any drama Very Happy

I use one of these

But the price has shot up on them, don't think I paid over £14 for mine Shocked
If your not towing, or intending to tow a caravan then I'd just go for the 13 pin to 12N they are around £5 on the bay of fleas Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Parking tool is here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-MAYPOLE-PARK...258aa53471

Pin alignment tends to be an issue on the wired plugs, caused me a load of problems on a previous 13 pin plug.

This thread has reminded me I need to get round to converting my trailer and caravan to 13pin plugs.

Never had a problem with the 13 pin plugs. Just buy a decent plug to start with. ^ easiest way to convert the caravan is to get one of the plugs with the twin cable grommet in the neck, then just put the 12n and 12s cables into the one plug. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes intend to get one of the twin entry plugs it is just a case of finding the time with all the other projects.

With the plugs they seem to be more problematic on caravans so perhaps the manufacturers either use cheap plugs or the sockets on the a-frames cause the issue, but for a few quid probably worth keeping one in the car.

Tend to keep a spare plug in the van just in case, though a bit more of a pain to swapover than a 12n. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I hacked the bottom off my old one, I've already grounded my new one so I guess I'll have to hack it's bottom off as well - although it grounding may have saved my bike rack.

I also have a quick towing electrics question, can I just rewire my twin sockets into one 13 pin socket? Geoff

It is possible to rewire the 12n=12s sockets into a 13 pin socket, but you could save a lot of hassle and use one of these

Makes sense to me as you'd be able to cope with all trailers and have to mess about with the factory loom Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
