BFG AT KO2 in LT275/55R20 are now fitted to my MY12. No scraping anywhere even when lowered to the bump-stops. The deflated spare fits in the well but with the left side plastic floor support trimmed, 2" dense foam spacers under the tyre to keep it level and the floor will get 2" spacers around the edges.

Access height

Normal height

Apologies for the quality of this one on the bump-stops (Access height and LLAMS extra low)

They look great. But I think you are over-cleaning your car. Let it get dirty every now and again. Very Happy

Interesting that in 275/45 you can get a Michelin Latitude Sport 3 which get better marks all in the rankings than the standard Pirelli (which is what I have always used)

Pirelli Fuel Economy C: Wet grip B: Noise 72db
Michelin Fuel Economy B: Wet grip A: Noise 70db

Better fuel economy is always good, never suffered for grip wet or dry to be fair but quiet too, now that would be good especially on a long run.

Am I placing too much store in these tyre quality rankings or might the Michelin route be worth looking at when the time comes? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

I think the tyre rankings are going to be like anything, they're a good way of comparing like for like, even if you don't see the precise results.

My X-Type had Pirelli's P-Zero's on it, they were just so noisy. I shopped around for the quietest replacements i could find, which turned out to be Dunlops. They were virtually silent on the car, so i think the rankings do give you an idea. Only thing they don't take into account is wear rate. The very grippy tyres are often that way because their rubber is very soft, which means they wear more quickly. Whereas i had Falken tyres on one of my minis, they normally perished before they wore out, but the wet grip was just shocking.

Only thing i found strange is the winter tyres often have worse wet grip ratings than summer tyres. Which is illogical, i can only assume either the testing regime is tailored to summer tyres in some way, or they have a separate ranking system for winter tyres (ie. F rated winters are the same as A rated summers for wet grip)

Do you mean like this?

I needed to get away from the short side-walls of the standard size because their harshness was the only shortcoming of the upgrade to a CVD vehicle for my wife's injured back and because of the vulnerability on gravel and rocks. I wanted an open pattern AT tread for everyday use and preferably a carcase better able to withstand the rigours of the outback travel that I occasionally do. This new BFG size in the new pattern and compound really caught my attention - perhaps a little more extreme than necessary but hopefully no real vices.

The noise on the first outing was acceptable for my use but the ride too harsh, so dropped the pressures which fixed the harshness but the noise became quite unacceptable. The pressures are now up from 32/35 to 34/37 slightly warm for the next outing. Late the previous day they had been set to 33/36 cold. Hopefully there is a pressure at which their noise and harshness is acceptable.

Unnecessary quote removed

I.fitted 275/50 michelins on my supercharged a few months ago now .
Replacing the stock sized 255/50 continentals .

I saw a few internet threads saying people fitted 265 for comfort , so did a little research on taking it a step further .
275 raises the wall to approx the size of a stock 19" wheel/tyre combo .

The stock 18" wall size would be the best I guess , but I didn't want to ruin the looks completely .

I drive in SoCal , so minimal rain and cold spells , and it's all on the road , mainly freeways around 75mph .
I could have got more wall using off-road types , but had no need for them .....

I can only presume people go for 265 as there is a little wider choice and a saving to be made , or maybe they think 275s will look a little odd on a stock ff rim . (Wider sport rims would make the 275 look more like the stock width)
My research led me to the Mercedes gl450 that uses this size tyre as stock on a rim the same size as a ffrr , so I went down to the local merc dealers and walked around a 450 with the appearance package .
They look just a little more "fuller" from the front/back without looking like pick-up-truck bubble tyres , and the profile difference is barely noticeable from the side .
All in all I find it to be a good look !! Smile
The car looked just right on 20" wheels , but the body was big enough that it could carry a little more tyre .

I can take pics if anyone's interested , but the best way is to find a gl450 with the appearance pack (exhaust tips and chrome side trim below the doors)

The Pirelli was a cheaper option , but according to reviews on gl forums the latitude sport was better for comfort and noise .

Another bonus is that the speedo is now accurate Laughing

i had an opportunity to buy some new genuine overfinch wheels, (I like the tiger design) and some new tyres. the wheels are the typical RRS size, so, they are I think 1/2 inch wider, with a slightly different ET size, meaning they sit outward a tiny bit more than the normal full fat size. I had wanted some fatter tyres for the FF, and the standard ones don't allow you to run along a kerb, without risking damaging the rim/paint etc. I tried a 285/50/20 on a standard FFRR rim, and it looked too fat and bulging. however, I had the new wheels to try one on, and they look better. so I t bought them, and and fitted them up. I would say, they look good, (to me) and they fill out the arch space ok. no rubbing, etc. even if I lower to access mode, and throw it round a roundabout! I guess they will throw more spray up the flanks as winter comes, but I have a nice sidewall on a 20 inch rim, and I can drag along a kerb, if I choose to. the make of these tyres, is some useless make 'sagitar' but they look like repro dunlops I think. no noises I can hear at 30- 70. incidentally. the speedo is dead on 70, when I use a iphone speedo app to check satnav speed etc. so they are of similar size overall. the tyres were so cheap and just going out of shelf life, I couldn't refuse.

Might be a silly question. But will these 275/55/20's fit on my 20 inch wheels too? (From a 2006 4.2 SC)

Also another question. Would a profile of 60 cause any issues does anybody know?

Are your wheels the stock sc 20s ?

275 are within the range for that width of wheel . And IMHO graemes set-up looks perfectly in keeping with lr .
Off the top of my head : 285 fit on the stock rim , but are pushing it .
Sport rims are wider and take 285 easily , but the offset makes them look a bit too "monster truck" for my liking .

60s will go , but you may have to cut off the rubber witches hats underneath the airbags on the struts .

* this is all info I gathered (and promptly discarded) when I was looking at upping the wall size on road tires .
This info may not be correct .
However , there is a mainly American rangerovers net forum that has a lot of info on oversize tires Wink
But please bear in mind lots of people over here run around with tyres sticking past the bodywork 2" , and think it looks cool ...
