Sounds like poss symptoms to me. It's not a costly item to replace, and a common failure point as you know, so would be my next step.

I'm having issues with my new one similar to what you describe. My original problem was fan on full all the time, so I'm pretty sure I've introduce a new intermittent fault with the new one.
