Potential Dashboard Renewal looms....

Last weekend, MrsC managed to snap the clip which holds the sunvisor in place. Not such a big deal, you may think, one screw later it's replaced. However.....she failed to catch the broken piece, meaning that the small bit of plastic flew across the dash and disappeared. I wasn't in the car so I don't know whether it went in the heater vent for the screen, or right down the back of the dash, between the dash and the screen. What I do know, however, is that every time you go round a corner, the little piece of plastic rattles it's way from one side to the other Rolling Eyes

I'm going to have a go at picking it out with a piece of coathanger and some grease but I'm not optimistic. so you can guess my next question - how do I, and how much do I, remove the dash to get it out? I've had the dash top off before but I can't recall how much was visible from there (not much I suspect) and what else needs to come out.

Well aware that this will be a very significant task....

Thanks.

Straight forward enough. You need to disconnect battery first because of airbag. Start at both ends where your walnut vents are. At the side of these there is a panel and you need to prise these off. Once off you will see screws that hold vents in place. You need to push in the little clips on the chrome part of the vent and remove to access another couple of screws. Once vents are removed you just need to remove screws on top of dash. There is a video on powerful that shows you. Fairly easy job. Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Thanks Googsy. I've done that part before, to fit an aux transceiver to the radio. It's when I get the dash top off and find that I need to go further that I'm worried about! The gap between the screen and the screen vents won't be open just by removing the dash top, I don't think??

Although I've not done this a small rubber pipe jury rigged to a vacuum cleaner gives suction powerful enough to pick up small bits and pieces even bolts and being a flexible thin pipe you might be able to get it in to the tightest corners. Geoff

What about something sticky, like fly paper, a lump of something on a stick... You get the idea...
Push it into the vent and leave it there. Hopefully, with normal driving, it will catch it eventually... Previously..

One of the kids lost a pen down the vents in the mrs Skoda.......

Didn't tell me.....

Wound up with a loud clicking noise when the fan was on. The biro had lodged itself in the fan itself.

Thank god for German engineering the fan unit just dropped out of the bottom of the dash with a twist and out came the biro Thumbs Up much easier than expected..

As for the bit of plastic, have you tried setting the fans to full, shutting the vents and putting it in "up" only, then driving round a lot of bends. Never no it may fly out.... Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
