I have been looking into purchasing a dash cam for a while now and came to the conclusion that the cheap ones don’t work well enough and on the other spectrum the expensive one are just too much a risk of theft if left in the car while parked unattended, you pays your money take your choice I know.

Im not going to review my dash cam in great detail as this has been done by this guy from techmoan ( http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/8/31/the...creen.html ) and was the deal clincher for me to purchase this one.

I bought the 0801 non GPS dash cam, its small enough to leave in the FF not to be detected by prying eyes, it’s not too expensive and bought mine from Amazon UK which seem to be the best price for the model I wanted.
It has :-
1.5” TFT LCD
135 wide angled lens
Image Sensor: 1 / 2.5”, 2M/5M pixel cmos
Cpu/processor: Ambarella A2s60 ( 1080p)
Video resolution: 1920x1080 / 1440x1080 / 1280x720
Need your own mini sd card, I’ve used a class 4 32 gig card

Car and usb lead’s , screen mount, camera and instruction manual, there is also a spare 3M sticker (not in my picture)

Thats great, ive just bought one of these. A couple of additions:

If you choose to hard wire i've bought these:

A spare foot, these come in GPS or non, so that you can just swap over the camera between cars:

Oh and i have changed the sticky pad on the rear of the foot so that its less obvious through the window glass.

Good Idea for more feet for other cars in the house hold , I had thought of more but as the rest of my fleet of green ovals are a bit old and hardy than the Full Fat, most Kamikaze drivers keep behind me, especially when in the 90...cant think why  If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Pretty much the same install I did with my Blackvue

I then bought more cameras for our other cars - I really couldn't be bothered moving a camera around and sods law says you'll need it on that short journey when you didn't bother.

Good post welshdragon! Fitted mine (cheapo £15 plus £15 for 32Gb sd card) about 4 months ago in a very similar manner and found it useful many times for filming idiotic driving. See this clip I took last month -

Agreed I too see too many 'locals' and tourist in the summer ( you can spot them a mile off here where I live ) driving as if the roads belong to just them!. If it dont work.......burn it!

Nice job Welshdragon, I had my 0801 fitted in early November. I went for the GPS version, but its only the mount that differentiates between GPS and Non GPS.

I located my Dash Cam slightly differently to you but would definitely say that placement is down to personal preference. One thing I did do recently was remove the supplied grey double sided mounting tape and used black which definitely improves the look from outside the car. I also put some black tape over the 1080p writing on the camera to make it less noticeable. One other thing I did was to put a small piece of black tape over the blue/red led as I found it a tiny bit distracting.

Having used the camera for the last 3 months I have got to say the video quality is great, especially during the day, even when it has the sun shining directly at it. Night time video's suffer somewhat and while its is still better than the majority of dash cams out there it certainly is not the best for night time capabilities. With a bit of street lighting it seems more than adequate, but the majority of roads were I live are unlit and the video quality could only be rated as ok.

Here are the pics of mine before I replaced the grey double sided tape with black tape. The second picture is basically what I see sat in the driving seat, so gives a good idea of what I see while driving. Now its been installed a few months I really never notice it except for the initial start up noise/tune from the camera when I turn on the ignition and the screen display for the first minute before it turns the screen off.

hi, reading above, and just looking at this on Amazon. is this one the one priced just under £30 roughly? or the £75 one? I don't need the gps type etc, just the camera, cheers.

Nice one, I hadn't thought of fitting the cam that side, I tried the passenger side of the rear view mirror but because the curve of the screen the picture was more bias to the near side, hence its in the middle.
I too have taped up the wording on the front Thanks for the tip about the little light and sticker I'll need to find one in my spares! If it dont work.......burn it!
