I have been looking into purchasing a dash cam for a while now and came to the conclusion that the cheap ones dont work well enough and on the other spectrum the expensive one are just too much a risk of theft if left in the car while parked unattended, you pays your money take your choice I know.
Instillation was easy enough and found the right power source on the fuse box ( number 7 ) this was already used for my parrot car phone so purchased this :-
I also didnt want to hard wire the lead to the fuse and found a socket in my spares :-
One piggy back, one male and one female connector and were in business. The passenger side panel is only push clipped in and will come off easily with care, careful not to damage the wood effect trim end. You will also need to take the kick panel off to access the wiring to fuse box to make things easier.
Wiring up is easily done with the bypass fuse holder and all was done in 30 minutes or so. Camera Now feeding the dash cam wire to the socket in the dashboard, I fed the wire up the near side A pillar and across the top of the screen to behind the mirror, excess cable was tied up behind the dash board end cover.
Placing the dash cam just behind the rear view mirror so its not a distraction while driving but at the same time easy to unclip from housing if needed, its central in the screen as my first position didn't show all the road ahead on the drivers side.
And there it is, ready for the Kamikaze drivers to do their worst ! I hope this has been of some help to others who are thinking of fitting a dash cam, doesnt matter what camera is fitted the wiring will be as easy as this ![]() If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF. If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser! If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !! |

Good post welshdragon! Fitted mine (cheapo 15 plus 15 for 32Gb sd card) about 4 months ago in a very similar manner and found it useful many times for filming idiotic driving. See this clip I took last month -

Nice job Welshdragon, I had my 0801 fitted in early November. I went for the GPS version, but its only the mount that differentiates between GPS and Non GPS.

Nice one, I hadn't thought of fitting the cam that side, I tried the passenger side of the rear view mirror but because the curve of the screen the picture was more bias to the near side, hence its in the middle.
