Agreed Welshdragon... £5.98 delivered for 2 x 2 metre lengths of the protective plastic strips plus £5.99 for the Comma grease.

Already had the Tardis and Iron X so thanks to the forum (again!) for under £12, 2.5 hours of my time and my old T shirt getting ruined with grease, it feels like a simple but proper job well done, knowing that when the car is washed over the months and years to come, rusted rear arch paint won't be flaking off onto 'the sponge'!

Thumbs Up

If your Rangie is getting a bit old, take off the sill trims, push fit fittings underneath and then just pull it hard to release the numerous clips, and have a look at the rear of the sills.... If you need to remove the jacking points, prise out the plastic peg in the middle and they pull off

My 2002 looked like this, taken a while to get that bad and would be any easy fix if found a few years ago...

Daft question.

Now that the inner arches/ flanges are or should be caked full of grease, when washing the car, do
I still train a spray hose in those areas under the arches or do I not bother for fear of spraying out all of the grease that is in situ to try and prevent corrosion?

Thanks Thumbs Up

I've left mine with vasalene in and just check it every so often. I don't spray water at it.

Others may do differently of course.......but as you say, prob wash the grease out...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Just done my arches using the strip recommended by NiceDayForIt (thanks for the tip)

I also filled inside the strip with grease before attaching to the car.

Used a small syringe to inject the grease and worked very well.

I found after initially attempting to load the syringe from the top with plunger out, that it could managed to suck the grease in to load itself from the spout end which saved time

Dragging up an old thread, but having had my ever ever ever so slightly rusty arches sorted yesterday, I've also bought the plastic strip. My rather daft question is, the original strip on the rear of the arch is coming away, however the arch itself is fine. Am I best just to replace it with the new plastic ones or try and get something to stick it back down?

See, I did say a daft question. Embarassed

I've used the door edge protector shown below on the wheel arch return flange.
Had it on a couple of years up to now.
Before fitting I cleaned the flange on both faces and applied a liberal coating of black grease to each face, fitted the protector strip and cleaned off the excess grease.
Just took the strips off recently to clean, regrease and refit. The flanges are like new.
Done my daughters Freelander the same way instead of using the LR replacement part.
IMO the plastic strip is better than the LR strips as it is all plastic and therefore doesn't corrode.
Looks very professional when fitted.

Could you please post a picture of these in place? I would like to compare the appearance to the LR strips. Thumbs Up Thanks in advance Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I really wanted one continuous strip front to back so I bought something similar to the ebay link in rubber.

Problem was if you run it around the lip when you get to the at the 12 o'clock position there is a kink in the lip and I could not get the rubber edge to conform.

So never fitted it. On the 'to do list' though.

If you could fit a plastic something that could be heated to adapt to the kink it would be an ideal solution

How did others deal with the kink?

. Cheers, Greg

Sorry about the second photo, it's almost impossible to show the strip clearly against the black wheel arch liner.
