You will have to proceed as if you have no phone. The unit in your car is a telephone control module (tcm) by BMW. That will not do Bluetooth. You will need to buy a BMW ulf and cable and antenna, but not microphone, as I assume that is already there.

So from what I can gather from posters, get 2nd hand BMW ulf from bay of e. Anything I should know ? how about the lead and antenna, the same place ? Then rewire the connector like you say and I'm sorted. |

Have a search for BMW ulf and you will find loads of info. The bay of e seems to be the best bet. The newer the version the better is the case. 13 versions were done over the years, shown by a different part number. I have a 6 the generation unit which also does voice control, ant it works with my iPhone 5 fine.

So now have in possession, 1 2nd hand ULF fourth gen from eBay, antenna from same, the Audi connector block as discussed and a wee push button for pairing. The mic is present in the hatch in front of the sunroof I was too hasty ordering the cable and didn't realise that it's coming from China so another couple of weeks before I can install.

The phone just sees the car as a Bluetooth headset. I don't have a separate headset to try, but if you do, it should behave the same.

So all the parts are now here and ready to go. Stripped all the trim out of the boot but before swapping the parts, a couple of questions.

Didn't have an existing unit in mine, so don't know for sure, but I'd pop it out the way and see how you get on.

All done & working fine. A bit of a fiddle moving the pins & took a few attempts to pair. Now I need to work out how the set up works on the screen as so far I keep calling someone by mistake every time I press a button. Thanks for all the advice |

Excellent news. If you press the button on the steering wheel it calls the last number if you are not carefull. The rt button toggles between radio and telephone for the use of the forward and back buttons on the wheel.

All still working fine & lovely and clear for me and the other person on the phone. However, when the phone rings, there is no number or name of the caller displayed either on the screen or the instrument cluster. Is it the same for everyone else whose done this mod ? |
