13/16 may be a better fit

New bolts come with locktite pre applied.

The hex bolt for removing the rotor is 6mm
Thickness of rotor should be more than 31mm.
New one should be more than 34mm

Another thought

Workshop manual says bleed excess brake fluid through brake nipple.
Easier route could be to syringe excess out of the reservoir?
In any event, maybe open the reservoir whilst pushing the pistons back in and check the level....

Just did a full set of pads on mine.

It was very useful to have this resource, I was a little stumped on the front pad retaining pins (not used to them just being a friction fit, was expecting them to either have an allen bolt head or split pin or something so was reluctant to just hammer them out).

I didn't read much further though, which is a shame. The big pad retaining bolt (13mm head) was awkard to get a socket onto due to the shape of the caliper around it - it really needed a thin wall, which I don't have to hand. Luckily it wasn't overly tight on either caliper, so unbolted nicely. I then use a very long bolt with the same thread as a drift - fully screwed in to protect the threads. Only looking here now, having finished the job, do I realise that they were both fitted backwards on mine - so knocking out towards the middle of the car, rather than the bolt head being on the inside and knocking them towards the outside of the car - which explains why it was awkward to get a socket on it! Banging Head Next time I have a few minutes I'll swap them around.

Still a very fast, easy job. Took a couple of hours to do all four, not rushing and checking general condition of stuff whilst under there.

A 21mm regular socket will fit
But doesn’t feel like the right tool

Any thoughts on this star type head? Triple square? 12 spline....
What is the best socket?
Given torque setting is 275 nm

I'm guessing it should be something like this:-

LASER TOOLS 7097 Front Brake Carrier Bolt Socket 21mm Land Rover
I saw that bolt on mine, and was a bit concerned until I realised I didn't have to pull the caliper to replace the pads.

Is that Laser Tool the right one to remove the calipers on a 2011 with Brembo? ? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

IIRC a standard multi point socket will fit and undo them, not a HEX, but one which goes on may ways round. I can't remember the size tbh but the one in my drawer did the trick.

I think 16mm was the size for the 4 pots but maybe the 6 pots have bigger bolts.

NOT This shape

The sockets and ring spanners are known as double hex or 12-point.

the only difference really from above is the addition of a centre bolt to the 6 pot calipers. This needs a 13mm ring spanner on it, back the bolt out most of the way and then knock it with a hammer to get the pin started and then finish driving it out with the drift.

I found this page with for an 8.8 M8 bolt torque settings - hope this is near enough.. (28.8Nm if image gets blocked)

https://www.grampianfasteners.com/files/95...%20rows%20

Any guidance/confirmation for the factory torque wrench setting for this calliper bracing pin bolt, please?
Thanks in anticipation!

Hello
The reason to allow the excess brake fluid through the bleed nipple is 2 fold.
1 If the fluid is forced to quickly back to the brake fluid reservoir, then there is a danger of the seals in the master cylinder flipping. This will show up as a soft brake peddle.
2 By allowing the OLD brake fluid out of the caliper, this will then be replaced with more fresher fluid. Also you can then test that fluid for water content.

sorry to jump on this post but!!!

Is the procedure for removing and fitting new front discs and pads on the L405 TDv6 the same as this?

No, the 405 tdv6 has TRW type callipers so will be basically the same procedure as the rears on a 322 or fronts on a non brembo car. Still pretty easy though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
