When I had the RR MOT'd earlier this week, the chap pointed out that the clip on one of my front CV gaiters was not tight enough, and that grease was seeping out.

If you have trouble crimping a cable tie is more than adequate and very easy to fit. |

I just assumed I could crimp it some more and it would tighten enough.

Well, I managed to borrow some pincers and nipped the clip up enough to stop it moving without the gaiter. If I try and spin the clip now, the whole driveshaft turns.

As long as the cable tie is tight and has a good grip on the boot it shouldn't come off as some aftermarket cv boot kits come with cable ties and not the metal clamp type like you have.

A jubilee clip is what I've used on the inner end of my CV gaiter. I've got the proper tool and still mashed up the proper clip... |

I am having trouble with my front CV boot straps. Unfortunately I took the old ones off and fitted new aftermarket ones that I cannot get to seal. Tomorrow I will be double strapping it with the new one next to the first but 180 degrees to it. If that doesnt work then maybe one of those wire tie devices would be my next option.

Got back from a 1800km trip over the weekend and during the trip noticed the inner front guards acquiring a smattering of cv grease. Not wanting to look under the car while away today I put it up on the hoist to see the drivers side had emptied itself of grease and while the passenger one was down to about half. Also everything was covered in grease which was a bit of a give away and the clamps had loosened though when fitted they had no movement.
