Superchips Bluefin Remap - initial impressions

Hi All

I remapped my 2007 TDV8 today with the Superchips Bluefin and have just taken it out for a spin post-remap.

I ordered the Bluefin as I'm based in Switzerland and wanted to be able to do it myself and also to be able to take it off and on when required.

Whilst I know the raw figures for the remap, my expectations were relatively low in terms of how different the car would actually feel. Having just been out for a spin in the car, I am absolutely blown away by how much the performance has changed. The car now feels effortless - before, the performance was good once you put your foot down but you could feel the sheer weight of the car being lugged around. The car has less hesitation on take-off (which, I feel, is one of the best benefits) and revs more cleanly / eagerly. Whilst I have no evidence yet, I am sure that my fuel economy will improve as on slight throttle opening and low revs the car seems to carry speed much better. I always use BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power diesel and so perhaps this is also adding to the remap efficiency?

I found the remapping procedure to be very easy / straightforward and I have very little technical ability with this type of thing.

Although early days, I can recommend this modification as it really makes a very noticeable difference to the performance of the car. I was thinking of changing my car for the 4.4 TDV8 and it will be very interesting to see what the difference is like between the two models post-remap.

Cheers

Aled

I was considering this tuning option for my 2007 TDV8.
I think you have just convinced me.
Would you be kind enough to post again after a few weeks and let us know how you settle in with it.
Thanks
Had it, loved it!

tried 2 different quality re-maps.
when driving, the Bluefin was the one that offered NO hesitation , smooth gear change, 0-60 7sec, great mid-range pull.
town driving(stop/start) is fantastic.
NO need for a SC .
equal if not better then a 4.4 TdV8(non re-mapped)
also the handset can be used to re-set fault codes( although i have not needed it yet for this purpose).
superchip/Bluefin technical support is fantastic.
if you have not tried/bought one ...you are not getting the best from your FF

I have bitten the bullet and ordered. I been meaning to remap since I got the car almost 18months ago but because I read positive things I wanted to get it done at JE, but the only time I get to Coventry is when SWMBO sends me there Very Happy Geoff

i do not work for superchips Laughing
but i feel great when a plan comes together.....
the outcome is better then expected.
i have 2 sporting boys so the FF is my wifes transport.
after the re-map she would not go back.
she says that the FF is effortless in town traffic..NO hesitation unlike other diesels

i also was thought about JE but went with bluefin because
1) ease of installation
2) you can revert it back to LR spec any time you like eg on sale of car
3) fault code reset
4) travelling to coventry
5) any issues(hopefully there should not be) the people at superchips are there to help, and any changes can be done over the computer

you also have 7 days to return the bluefin if it does nothing for you..
be great to hear how you get along...

I will certainly feedback when I've had some more time with the car.

Driving again today, it has also struck me how much smoother the gear change is (as Goldsax also mentions). I had been experiencing some clunky shifts (especially coming towards a stop as it was changing down) and had had a software update recently. This hadn't solved the problem but had improved it. Yesterday / today, since the remap, the gear change is noticeably smoother. I don't know if the remap also alters the gearbox software or whether just the engine characteristics smooth things out?

Had my blufin remap since April. Makes the car much more responsive (bear in mind I came from 5.0 SC). Getting an improvement of 2mpg+ in fuel economy and haven't noticed any hesitation at all (the one thing I was worried about!) Land Rover Addict

I have the SuperChips remap also and have been very impressed as per all the comments above - I previously had a 4.2 Supercharged Sport ...

Only negative is it does now belt black smoke out the rear when accelerating hard - has anyone else noticed this?

I've put it back to standard and checked .... no smoke, re-mapped - smoke? Stephen Gazard

probably cos when you switch on the remap its using more fuel to give you extra power....it has been documented that chips just increase the fuel to give you extra power... ... - .- -.

there is "some' smoke that is produced compared to non re-mapped, but for my FF its not that much . my 350CDI ML merc 2011 standard spec , now that belts out smoke when accelerating, as does my friends BMW 3 series diesel.

yes there are cheap remaps that just pump extra fuel. but with companies like JE and superchips owners have not seen a decrease in economy.

i have seen a 5% increase in economy ...
from 19.4mpg to 21 mpg Laughing
or is that just statistical error..

I guess it makes sense that it should use more fuel to generate more power after all you can't get something for nothing. I am always puzzled though when folks also report better fuel consumption. There seems to be an enigma here that I can only solve buy buying and trying - so that's what I've done. What I am really aiming for is a change to driving characteristics particularly pick up from standstill, which on mine seems to be odd slow at first and then it picks it's skirt up.

Anyway I've got seven days to decide and it comes Monday so watch this space for a report. Geoff

You can get better fuel economy because the way you drive changes, it's not laboring to get up to speed etc. If you drive it like you stole it - your consumption will go down. You'll see what I mean when you remap - it really does feel like a lively petrol! Land Rover Addict
