How do you drive? if you are heavy on the throttle the mpg you indicate is possible with a TD6. When I bought my Td6 the consumption was reading 13.5mpg which was a bit worrying

I do like to make a bit of progress when I can but I'm not too bad, to give you an idea a Skoda Octavia 4 wheel drive estate wiith the 180bhp Golf GTI engine in it gives me over 30 mpg on the same use.

I have a TD6 2002 with 106k, i do regular motorway trips and get 30-32 mpg, when i get near home and onto A roads it can go as low as 24 mpg, the only time I get 18mpg is if I boot it or have long or steep inclines to drive up. Could be lots of reasons why yours is low but a good start is to ensure the servicing is done regular, I do mine every 6k including filters, air oil etc, also blanking the egr which you can see on Wiki is an easy mod and I also believe changing the crankcase breather for a vortex version also helps..........can’t comment on peoples driving style but this is always a factor |

baldylocks, an average of around 28mpg is easily achievable with a TD6, mixed motorway and A roads, a TDV8 will do 30 ime. |

I'm getting 20 mpg out of my 4.4 V8 petrol in normal driving so you should be getting better than 18 mpg.

It takes time to get used to the gearbox and get into the habit of knowning how to force it into a lockup or to stop slipping. this is the best way to yield higher MPG in the TD6 other than flushing the fuel system FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
