United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey
Disappointment......

After spending some time looking for a half decent TD6 FF I eventually found a nice one, 2004 3 owner Vogue with 120k miles and FSH. I've been using it as my daily drive since I bought it which brings a mixture of driving, mainly fairly free flowing A roads with some congestion occasionally.

Two weeks ago I put £100 worth of diesel in and reset the computer, today it is showing an average of 18.3 mpg over 272 miles with a range of 47 miles remaining.

Whilst I knew it wasn't the most frugal car in the world I was hoping to get well into the 20s, now I'm wondering why I didn't save some money on the purchase price and buy a V8?

How do you drive? if you are heavy on the throttle the mpg you indicate is possible with a TD6. When I bought my Td6 the consumption was reading 13.5mpg which was a bit worrying Confused

However, you may need to give it more time and let the computer settle down a bit. Set one of the Consumption monitors and then just leave it, reset the other on each fill up.

There could always be a problem in there somewhere though. (Engine Management etc)

You should be getting @ 500 miles on a full tank.... .

I do like to make a bit of progress when I can but I'm not too bad, to give you an idea a Skoda Octavia 4 wheel drive estate wiith the 180bhp Golf GTI engine in it gives me over 30 mpg on the same use.

That's what I've done with the computer, I'll keep an eye on it for the next couple of tanks and maybe get it checked out if it doesn't improve. It's a shame diesel is so much more expensive than petrol as I'm not that bothered by the overall MPG but the cost per mile....

United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Epsom Green

I have a TD6 2002 with 106k, i do regular motorway trips and get 30-32 mpg, Thumbs Up when i get near home and onto A roads it can go as low as 24 mpg, Big Cry the only time I get 18mpg is if I boot it or have long or steep inclines to drive up. Could be lots of reasons why yours is low but a good start is to ensure the servicing is done regular, I do mine every 6k including filters, air oil etc, also blanking the egr which you can see on Wiki is an easy mod and I also believe changing the crankcase breather for a vortex version also helps..........can’t comment on peoples driving style but this is always a factor

CHECK YOUR REAR CALIPERS . . . . .

. . . . . . aren't seized !

My Td6 plummeted from over 30 to 17 Shocked

Slight panic at the time, but easily resolved -

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

baldylocks, an average of around 28mpg is easily achievable with a TD6, mixed motorway and A roads, a TDV8 will do 30 ime.

I'm getting 20 mpg out of my 4.4 V8 petrol in normal driving so you should be getting better than 18 mpg.
As suggested above, give it a good service, EGR blanking etc.
I also had one of the rear brake callipers seize but that was easy to diagnose due to the smell of burning brakes when I parked. Whistle When I changed the calliper I took the disc off and there was a load of rust and muck inside the disc, where the handbrake shoes are, so whether this was part of the problem or not I don't know but it couldn't have helped.

Are you driving your diesel engine like a petrol engine ?

It takes time to get used to the gearbox and get into the habit of knowning how to force it into a lockup or to stop slipping. this is the best way to yield higher MPG in the TD6 other than flushing the fuel system Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
