How to find an Airleak on the TD6 fuel lines :(

This is the first time this has happened and i was a little worried....

This morning on my way into work the engine stalled whilst doing about 20-25mph after a steep downhill descent.

It wouldnt restart straight away so i called out for a rescue.

3 minutes or less later and she burst into life, a little lumpiness then all good again within a second...

Im thinking that fuel wasnt getting in as she was spinning over but not catching so am wondering if water would possibly cause this?

I last filled up when it was raining and its possible a little water got in whilst i was doing this (Due to the way i fill up and what with)

I may chuck a few litres of dino and 2so in to make sure its all good as i dont use 2so regularly as its offered no benefits in the past for me but may give it a shot again Smile

Any ideas anyone? or should i just swallow the pill and get the IID Tool ordered?

Also will it have caused damage to the gearbox running for a very short while in 'D' before i knocked it into N and coasted to a halt?

PS its a TD6 2005 model. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

No the one just in front of the rear near side wheel. there are a couple of small bolts hold a cover plate, remove them for access. If the engine fails to start again give the pump a light tap with a spanner/hammer to try and get it running

My god they are well worn aren't they!! i wonder if heat builds up and just wears it off quickly when it gets so old?

Dare i ask how much another one is as i may order one before the weekend and keep it with me as a spare?

I have the special clip pliers for those sodding clips as well, my fiat coupe used them EVERYWHERE and it was horrible. I'll stick some proper fuel clips in as well..

Tempted to order an IDS system off the bay to make sure but also need to get my bash plate fitted Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I bought a genuine LR pump, cost £141.05 part number LLR023043


There is lots on the net about people who changed the pump only for it to fail a year or so later, but they don't say if it was a cheap copy they fitted. If my original pump lasted 124k then I'm sure this one will see the vehicle to the end

Exactly John, Do i want to take that chance part way through a raging river.... Me thinks not.

Though there are some genuine OE ones kicking about for £120 so me thinks i'll see what can be haggled off should it happen again as a i have a fair few more miles in next few days and i can always get it ordered on thursday on a next day basis if its bad.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Do you know the name of that type of clamp, I have pliers for the CLIC-R clamps but they don't work on the RR clamps

It is in the grey matter but it escapes me at the moment.

Those ones are nastey too. THe tool i got from Laser years back does both as the coop used the clic-r ones on the small boost and vacum hoses. blooming ejits just doing it to save production run time Evil or Very Mad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Those clamps are called cobra clamps.

Probably so because they'll give you a nasty bite if your pliers slip off of them Whistle Cheers,

Trip home report...

Wouldn't start as normal just turned over.

Stopped and then left it in the run position as you would if just changing the fuel filter and and it sprang into life after a little longer than normal cranking. It was a little noisey the pump when priming so I beat find some spare pennies and get one on order Sad
