Does anyone know of any way to test the fuel injectors on an L322 4.4 TDV8 without removing them and having them bench tested. Can they be tested in situ?

If I didn't know the service history I'd maybe add some flushing addative for the first oil change but the main issue with the oil is soot load and diesel contamination from regens as they get older ...

That white smoke kan be caused by the turbo leaking on the exhaust side. It then just heats the oil instead of burning it. Uou wont find much oil in the intercooler.

Could the high pressure pump timing be out? That wouldn't I don't think generate a fault code or would it?

That might explain the white smoke and I'll throw in the PCV valve to explain the pressure ...

Are you sure that it isn't oil smoke, possibly from the intercooler. I would remove the outlet hose from the intercooler to see how much oil comes out.

Is the engine doing anything else that it shouldn't be? Assuming that it's not condensation then it could be unburnt fuel from a faulty injector which should at least make the idle uneven.

Removing the glow plugs is a good idea, however, having removed glow plugs on older diesels before I'm not entirely sure I'd fancy giving it a go! If they snap you're in a whole world of pain.
