you could remove the temp sensor from behind the grill and route it into the engine compartment to shield it from the cold ,but then you wont get a real time temp reading .. ... - .- -.

Is Faultmate a specialist bit of kit - complete novice here?

Is it something that a good independent is likely to have access to?

Hi Phil, a Faultmate is specialist kit and quite expensive. It should be able to do almost everything the special Landrover dealer computer can do. The outfit selling it is called Black Box Solutions and they are located on Cyprus. I specifically bought mine as I don't want to be dependent on the ridiculously expensive stealers in Nigeria. Also I plan to travel Africa overland in a few years time so it will be handy to have the Faultmate.

Faultmate is speficially designed for Landrover, Jaguar and Rover. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Are you kidding? Its only a bing sound once in a while. Is it really that bad? Do you drive in silence with the radio off ? ( cause there are a lot of songs out at the mo which are faar more annoying ! ) Plus, I think its a good idea to have it. I've seen the temp drop very quickly when driving along. Setting off at 7deg and quickly dropping to zero or below where I am. I've seen it drop 3 deg in the space of a few hundred yards before
and I'm glad it binged at me for it. V8 or else ...

Thanks for your helpful comments. In short, yes I am serious and would remove it if I could hence the question to the experts. My previous FFRR suffered from lots of issues over 18 months and it's the same 'bing' that tells you disaster has arrived yet again. So I'm programmed to expect the worse when the 'bing' comes and the last thing I need the RR to do is it to tell me is when its getting cold (not even freezing) outside. I'm pleased you find it so useful and reassuring though.

Yes I agree it would be nice to turn it off. I have a reoccurring electrical sensor error that starts with the double bing then lists engine fault, lowered suspension fault, transmission fault - limited gears only, HDC fault system not available and finally parking brake fault. So when I get a single bing because its 5 degrees or less it makes one a little nervous. Steve B

@Phil, it is very exiting and very quiet at the moment Ikoyi and VI are virtually deserted although Awolowo road had demonstrations yesterday that got a bit heated apparently. Saw some burned out stuff when I went down the road in the evening. Great driving (have to go to VI in the evening to visit hospital every day) but hard to get stuff (food, petrol etc.). Actually, it must be that bad - at least for some who have gotten burned by Land Rover's modest pricing policies. Phil isn't the first person who has brought this up. I have seen at least 2 other threads on the same topic. And in our family it's my wife who goes pale at every bong (She's the controller. I'm just responsible for outgoing cash ). One guy on RR.net described the feelings the bong summoned as 'my wallet opening and the thousand dollar bills floating out' .

Phil, as RRPhil said, the Faultmate allows changing this. You can ask around - there are indys who have a Faultmate to service RRs. Or you can wait a bit. We are working on this option for the IIDTool as well.
