Battery jump points

Hi

Have had my ffrr for a couple of months, but only got round to using the fbh for the first time this morning (well set the timer to run this morning at least). Well, got in the car 10 mins after it had finished doing its thing, and dash was flashing more than my Xmas tree...and wouldn't start up. Got the AA guy out who checked the battery condition and said it was fine, but I should not be using fbh as OEM batteries aren't up to the job - pretty annoying having spent sooooo much to buy the bloody car. Any who, will look to replace it soon for the Bosch hopefully but in the meantime I wanna know why my car has no positive jump point in front of the bulkhead - the aa bloke just connected to the battery point itself. Looking in the manual, that is supposedly dangerous cos of the pyro device.... Did they change the wiring at some point? I have an 07 plate...
Thx

it should have a CCA rating of 110 as the diesels need this Smile

Thx kingpleb, need to upgrade to the Bosch one at some point soon. However, am still confused about the lack of positive jump point in front of the bulkhead... Any ideas?

It should be just infront of the battery on that scuttle panel and be covered with a flap with a 1" '+' sign on it Smile

Defo not there, but there is a large red cable going thru that point that then disappears towards the front of the engine bay. Will take a pic and work out how to post on here in the morning. Cheers guys

I also have an 07 with the large positive cable running through the bulkhead and don't have a jump terminal or any pyro device as shown in the handbook, sounds like you are not alone! MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet

My 2007 TDV8 does not have the forward 'jump' post nor the pyro device. Looks like they decided to do without for us. I think I'm happier without the pyro device to worry about. 2012 5.0L S/C

The pyro device was removed with the new ford system as I believe most of the SRS was changed with the new ford electronics - they don't have a pyro battery disconnect system.

Unsure why some people have a positive jump point and not others though.

07 TDV8 with no pyro but do have th jump post

get the alternator checked out - may be that at fault (it was on mine and chap said in general people blame the battery but the fault tends to lie with the alternator, new gel batteries excluded...)

07 TDV8 with no pyro and no jump point!

Had to jump start it this week as battery was flat after running the FBH for 30mins (it was -3)

I'd been running the FBH every morning and evening for about a month, with a 12m each way commute so it may have been a cumulative effect on a 5 year old batter.... I've had the heated seats and steering wheel on as well!

On holiday next week so going to fit a bigger 110ah battery - gotta love that FBH in the morning! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!
