Interior lighting issue

Me again Razz Now, lots (and I mean lots) of my interior lights don't work at present. This inckudes glovebox light, tailgate lights, map reading lights, and possibly others I haven't discovered yet!

I randomly removed one of the tailgate lights and put 12v across the bulb and that works. But not when it's in place. Haven't checked the others yet but it seems odd that so many lights are not working.

I know I'm being lazy here Laughing but is there a single fuse which runs all these lights? Or is there another reason why multiple lights would not be working? Or do I just have a visit from the gremlins?

OK Boss, Sir, Dad.... Razz

I got the manual out and checked fuses. There's only one which says "interior lights" (and also windscreen washers, which are working, but still....) so I pulled that out. Sure enough the fron and rear roof-mounted lights go out. (Forget to check the puddle lights but those are working anyway).

So I have glovebox light, tailgate lights x 2 and map lights x 2 not working. At least one tailgate bulb is OK. Surely they're not wired in series or something stupid? Would have to be 24v anyway if so, wouldn't they?

So can ANYONE tell me how to get the rest of my interior lights working puhleeeeez, cos not only do I want to be able to see in the boot at night, but I also want to start replacing with LEDs!

Stan, yes, was owners manual, just for fuse numbers - do you think there will be more in the workshop manual?

Hmm - getting scarey (!) now. Most of the interior lights are controlled by one or other control modules.....I can't see any straightforward reason why they wouldn't be working.

The manuals are properly complex! Anything else simple to check before I place myself in the hands of someone wielding a credit card machine??

Can I open this one up again?

I've checked every fuse known to man, I've checked most of the bulbs - but - I don't have the following working:

- glovebox light
- map reading lights x 4
- tailgate lights

Not sure about this but also down on the centre console where it has P/R/N/D etc, the dots beside those letters don't light up - are they supposed to, ie to show when you're in gear etc?

RAVE suggests that all of these (and several others, eg sill lamps, footwell lamps, etc, which ARE working) are controlled by the BCU (C0662). Is it possible that there is either a fault, or a setting, in this BCU?

A FFRR'r near me (Piecost) has a Hawkeye which he's offered me the use of - any idea whether this will point up the fault for me?

Thanks.....

I presume you have tested each bulb holder thats out for voltage with a multimeter?

Someone had a similar issue a few months back. Does you light dimmer work? Think their LCM was Censored and needed a new one. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I haven't done yet, no - partly because I'm making the assumption that if the bulbs are OK (tested off the car with 12v) then there won't be any voltage - and partly because I feel that there must be a common fault causing this?

Or is that not a valid assumption?

That's what I fear. Rob - altho I'm fairly sure my dimmer works (will have to go and double-check).

Any idea how any mortgages I need for an LCM? (That's located at the bottom of the A pillar somewhere IIRC?)

"Or is that not a valid assumption?"

Check the basics first, it's cheaper. Smile

Basics would be check for a voltage at the holder... And also check the neg.earth on the holder, that could be the common link. Previously..
