Bought one ! Now what ?

Hi all.

Been reading on here for a few months and have bought a 1 owner 2003 Td6 Vogue in epson green with ivory leather.

What are the must do jobs ?

I am thinking the crankcase breather filter mod and the front driveshaft recall, as thats not been done.

Plus perhaps the bag to protect nav unit etc from water .........

any other thoughts ?

Many thanks

1. Buy a diagnostic tool (search forum for IIDTool/All-Comms/Faultmate/.......) this will save you time and money in the long run, and help you fix and learn about your car.

2. A good set of metric sockets (short and deep, six sided) a good length extension bar, and some metric spanners (10mm very useful)

3. Get a copy of the RAVE workshop manuals (see wiki)

4. Read all of this forum and the other LR forums

5. Get the Air-Con checked out (gas, leaks) and then run it all the time

6. Check for leaks into the spare wheel well (usually comes in by all the ICE in the boot area)

7. Change the engine oil @ every 6000 miles (synthetic only)

8. Keep an eye on your brake discs and pads

9. Get a new high crank battery

10. Use everything on the car regularly (Air Suspension Heights / Low Range / HDC / rear Wash Wipe .......)

Finally enjoy having a great car, accept you will never want to drive anything different, that it is not perfect, but that the rest of the world will still look up at you - on the road! Smile .

Many thanks.

Having had a 3.9 V8 Classic for 3 years followed by a Td5 ES for nearly 5 years, I've got RAVE and Microcat etc. Very useful.

I'm not expecting it to be all plain sailing, but am hoping it's not too bad.

A friend of mine has just sold his 2003 4.4 V8 for £5k !!!!! as the gearbox is on its way out and he can't afford to fix it. Paid about £12k for it in March. He has some diagnostic software, but I don't know which one.

Should collect the RR next week. Garage has a few jobs to do, like the heater fan not working and autochanger with no magazine and a broken CD in the bottom of it. James Blunt as well. The horror of it all !!!

The Land Rover dealer has printed the spec sheet and its got some personal phone integration or something, so I've already started to search on here and so will keep an eye out for the BMW ULM (?) Bluetooth box and a hybrid TV tuner of some sort..........

Really looking forward to it.
