Parcel Shelf Support - Cheapo Fix

Since I bought the FFRR one of the pegs that slides into the runner on my parcel shelf has been broken off, causing the whole thing to rattle. Consequently its not been in the car much. So after three years I finally got around to fixing it - the cheapo way. Yes, I could have drilled out the the old fixing (they are seriously in their mountings) and bought a new one, but this was more fun. All done with stuff lying around in the garage.

The broken peg

Saw/Cut it off flat

Drill a small hole through the remaining stub and find a suitably long screw - I think this was a 2.5in "6"

You now need an "outer" to go over the screw, some plastic or rubber tubing should do it. The runner on the car is quite a bit bigger than the original pegs, so you have some leeway. I used some rubber tubing off an old compression tester. Cut this to size, slide over the screw, screw it on, job done. Rubber good, makes less noise etc.

Fit parcel shelf to car and road test. Remember this probably won't take the weight or abuse the original pegs do, but sorts things for now.

Cheap and cheerful Smile .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink
