ANSWERED: Fitting instructions for OEM side tubes

I've received the tubes I bought from Alan. Fitting looks as though it should be easy, but I'm obviously missing something as there is no obvious way to attach the inner end of the leg to the car.

Each leg has a pair of bolts outboard *(easy to fit) and a further pair inboard (problem). The inboard pair have to connect to something but for the life of me I can't see what. I may be missing some vital components.

So, I want a picture if anyone has one.

Have done the obvious (wiki and site search) and googled for it but no luck so far.

Help welcome, thanks. Graham

I think fixing points should be located under the plastic sill which needs to be removed as I had to do this on my Disco. Not sure though Whistle

Dan -
This is a great link, thanks !
I've a set of VUB502610 light guards for my 06MY car. I've got everything bar the template where to drill the holes in the wings. I've checked TOPIX which shows it as part of the fixings. Any idea where I can get the template from ? I've asked on FF before, to no avail . . . . .
Cheers
Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Right, I've now had a look with the benefit of the photos and the LR instructions. The missing fixings are in fact covered by circular pieces of sticky plastic. Once you know what they are, peeling them of reveals a nice M8 tapped hole Very Happy

Hooray.

I've had to order up some stainless bolts (and some Autosol...), but they'll be nice and shiny soon. And fitted. Will post a few photies when they're done. Graham

Right, all done. What a complete bastard of a job. One of the M8 nuts welded to the inside of the chassis was impossible to get the bolt into, just wouldn't catch. Eventually did bu was very stiff indeed... resorted to a bit of force and Censored me but the weld holding the nuts onto the inside of the chassis member snapped off...by then the M8 bolt was half way in.. so now I have a loose fitting, with a hugely stiff M8 stainless bolt stuck into a nut loose inside the chassis....

Hacksaw. Not a chance.

Bought a small angle grinder and a stainless cutting disc. 30 seconds later, head is off bolt and I can fish the rest of it out through one of the bigger holes.

Now - how to replace the fixing. Went to a fixings specialist and bought a couple of industrial 6mm self-cutting / self-tapping hex head bolts; small pilot hole then drive these in with a power driver. Two replace one x M8. Probably not perfect but good enough I think.

Fitting time including all the dicking about amounted to 4 hours.
