For me, I just want something that can check what's wrong if I do get a code. Having a neighbour who is a service manager at a LR Dealer is very handy for getting things rectified |

Generic scan tools/fault code readers can only read the generic OBD codes - these are a simplified subset of the full fault code, and are only available for legislative reasons.
